Wow, I actually just posted a question about this on SPV's Facebook a little bit ago! Question answered I guess!
Though, they probably should have listed them both at the same time if it was possible because I'm sure people would have wanted to buy it as a bundle and maybe get a discount.

In short, the less tracks on an LP, the better they can make it sound. It's possible that's at least part of the reason as these vinyl releases are targeted at the audiophile crowd in addition to the collector crowd... and a double-LP does certainly appeal to both demographics.
Here's a bit more from from the site of audio music restoration specialist SteveHoffman:
There is a trade off between recording level and duration per side. Cutting at 45 RPM offers a higher resolution, meaning that the sound is spread over a longer length of the groove, with more space between grooves as opposed to a 33-RPM recording. That's why a 12" single - with one track on one side - will sound far better than an LP with 5 tracks on one side.

Here is an interesting question. Because vinyl is coming back, a lot of record companies are pushing vinyl over CD. I heard that as a result vinyl pressings of new albums often come with copies of the CD inside. One example is the Black Keys' "Attack and Release". The vinyl supposedly has a CD copy inside.
Does anyone know if this will be the case here? I'd love to own this double-LP, but for convenience sake it would be nice to own the CD as well. Thanks for the info.

I haven't heard of that happening, but not sure how likely as I'm sure it would have been mentioned or listed possible. For instance, the AmazonUK had it to where you could buy the CD as well as a package and save on shipping, but you didn't come necessarily together, both separate items.TeresofBlood wrote:Here is an interesting question. That is simply a marketing tool used by a niche amount of artists.TeresofBlood wrote:Here is an interesting question. The resurgence in vinyl is due to 2 things....an increase in DJ's and Collectors. The vast majority of vinyls that are bought these days (i.e new albums and classic reissues) will remain in their shrink wrap and will not be played.
With regards to it being a double album, it'll probably just be 3 tracks per side. Being a double does not mean it will be an extra-long album, it's simply a nice package to market.

I have to agree, especially with the "collectable" side. Though I know newer LPs can be pretty popular depending on the fan base. Rush released "Snakes & Arrows," their new album from last year in a limited edition LP, 25,000 copies sold I believe. I believe they sold out of them fairly quick (or at least sold a very good amount of them.) Now on YouTube there are videos of the LP being played on record players. Some people are gushing over it even. While Heaven Wept wrote:That is simply a marketing tool used by a niche amount of artists.
