New York City / Beacon Theatre Gig

Post by ReGorLaTroy » Sun Mar 03, 2013 8:14 pm

OK, so I know it is a long way off, but who is planning on attending this gig?

It would be so much fun to get together before the show for a bite to eat, a drink (or two) and to share Coop stories.

Whenever we attend shows at the Beacon we normally eat a place called, Columbus Tavern http://www.columbustavern.com/, (Formally, The City Grill) which is just a couple of blocks away from Beacon Theatre.

18 July can't come soon enough!

Just saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at The Beacon last night and was reminded, yet again, how great the sound is there.

I've seen Alice there twice before (The Dragontown and Eyes of Alice Cooper Tours) and the sound (both times) was amazing.

Last night was a great show with Tom Petty and it really reinforced my excitement for Alice this July.

Orianthi is playing Webster Hall's Marlin Room (which holds like 500 capacity) on 17 July, which is the night before the Alice Cooper concert (at Beacon Theatre) in New York City.

Sorry I didn't meet up with you guys, I had to work. :/
Anyway, the show was awesome, of course, but damn it was sooooooooo hot in the theatre. It got real bad. The crowd braved through the heat, up on their feet, cheering the classics, that was until the four covers. I have to admit that's when I sat down, but it picked up again when he returned with more classics.
Still, all in all, Alice ruled! :8):

The covers seemed to be very well-received in Cincinnati. The crowd was really into them.

The show was KILLER as was the heat in the theatre...

I was told that the air conditioning was turned off initially because of the pyrotechnics (which were amazing especially on the show opener Hello Hooray)

I guess no one bothered to turn it back on until half way through the show when folks started the wilt.

House of Fire indeed!

Where was “It’s Hot Tonight” and “Workin’ Up A Sweat”?

Those could have easily replaced the two show speed bumps otherwise known as, “Caffeine” and “Dirty Diamonds”.

The “Raise The Dead” segment, IMO started out fine but shoulda been a medley and not four complete songs.

All in all a FABULOUS show…

The Coop and crew still got it folks!

I watched the audience the whole show, singing along, swaying their arms, devil horns and what not, and during those four tracks, there was hardly any movement. Some were singing along. Some were dancing because they are classic tracks, but I know, and I could just feel that the rest of the crowd, besides myself, felt they just had no purpose. It was like an intermission. We came to see the Coop and his own brand of rock and roll, and during that time, we want Alice songs. I mean, sure, "Hello, Hooray" is a cover song, but he made it that song his own. It was wasn't very well known until the Coop made it a killer track. The band changed it to their own style. The four tracks he performed, he didn't own, they were well known, and the original artists performed them better. Usually what makes a song a classic is not only the song itself, but the sound that original band created for it. Alice basically tried to emulate them. I understand it was a homage to his old drinking buddies. But I feel it's a waste of valuable time, unless you are hanging with the band warming up and you are having a few beers. Years ago, Lemmy said when I asked him if he would ever cover a Hendrix track, he said "Why should I?" It's already been done at it's best."
