Rise - First reviews

Post by Pitta » Mon Jun 10, 2019 12:36 am

There are (maybe) the first two reviews (one english and one german) from the new Hollywood vampires album:

I've not heard it but that review seems way over the top. Bit like those reviews on Kerrang were everything was four out of four stars or whatever.

That was released a couple of weeks ago. There's the 'Heroes' video as well now, released a couple of days ago.
See news page.

Tackling Heroes was a mistake as it is a perfect song and Depps vocals don't add anything. Video is bland and the song is grating. I think they should have stayed away from covers altogether.

There is not a soul on Earth who can cover "Heroes" and even come close to Bowie. It's one of those songs that the original can never be topped.

Maybe Depp will try and cover "Hey Jude" or "Gimme Shelter" next.

You're right Mr. B. - Johnny D. does the song well & it does fall into his vocal "wheelhouse" but, db will always own that song. The Beatles & Stones are good ideas but... can The HV start to get a little farther away from the covers? Maybe a whole album of originals with JP & the others taking some turns at lead vocals. I thought it was cool to see AC actually doing back-up vocals on "Heroes" though. :alice:

"Heroes" is one of those songs were I can understand why they would want to cover it live on tour but this studio version adds nothing new to the song and just ends up being boring.
"You, sir, are a demented, sick, degenerate, barbaric, naughty freako."

WOW LOVE IT MAN. Whos laughing now, the band and Cooper sounds really cool and great, 1971/72ish plus later 70s, like the REAL COOP, how it should be-

Whos laughing now-

https://youtu.be/vlwWP3uawHk

"The beast defeat of the East elite
Gave poisonous treats to the innocent priest
All alone with his tweets
Recycled from the pageantry of forever creeps
Gallantry, guaranteed, chivalry, pig disease
Clergy sleaze, on their knees, begging please
For his own reprieve"

And I love the fact that a Whats eating gilbert grape actor is a major Alice Cooper fan and plays great as well-

The first review doesn’t seem to know that You Can’t Put Your Arms Around a Memory and People Who Died were both covers also. Those two interest me much more than Heroes which I’ve never much cared for.

There was only one Bon Scott. I never liked Brian Johnson singing the song either.

I wonder if Alice even knows what the song is about.

Alice being a big fan of poker thinks it's a straight up song about playing the game.

Cold Room thinks this song was part of "a plan" to get rid of GB.
