I've read quite a few people on social media that Wayne Hussey from THE MISSION made a few ill-advised comments about football while supporting ALICE in Glasgow ....

I missed his comments , anyone on here have any idea what he said ?

I was not there but I can image that he made comments about Celtic or the Rangers?

From what I recall, all he said was something along the lines of "shame about the World Cup". I wouldn't say that was enough to tar a rather brilliant slot as support act.

Really ? Is that it ?

I was hoping for something a bit more edgy .....Oh well .....

Not as good as the wonderful Wayne Coyne of THE FLAMING LIPS telling a Glaswegian crowd at The Barrowlands that it was:

" ....great to play for such intelligent fans , who unlike many folks in the U.S, have no time for superstitious and religious nonsense ....... we were clearly all atheists ...."

It was nice to imagine the bigots cringing in the audience

He was just a wee bit stroppy. Said we were too quiet. Said he was the best band of the evening. And muttered bollocks before one song. Commented on folks being late to their seats. I got the strong impression he didn't like being in the support slot.

Tubes were fun though and after following Alice since 72 and seeing him every tour since 82 the ACG section was a dream come true. Sounded solid and powerful.

I wanted to see White Punks on dope by the tubes and that was that, was late and missed that but not bothered cos was having fun in town. Had checked the mission out on YT in advance and decided id skip them...boohoo... How arrogant if he said something about being "best band of night" in anything other than jest.

I'm not Scottish but genuinely found nothing Wayne said as arrogant, it seemed more like a dry sense of humour to me. I know nothing about him though so not sure if that's his style or not.

I live in a city where religious bigotry is never too far from the surface ,

and it's often associated with what soccer team you support ...

I'd hoped the singer from the Mission had commented on it , highlighting the sheer stupidity of it ....

Same goes with the Flaming Lips ...

That's why ......and why

aww, poor bairn. firstly, he should count himself honoured to be able to play w/ Alice, and secondly, if they had been the headliners, imagine his whining when support band Alice blew them off the stage.

Regarding football, it was just that solitary comment about the World Cup, which was an OK piece of gentle sarcasm really, as was the rest of his dry humour. I'm no fan of the Mission at all, but I thought their Tower of Strength opener was pretty effective.

Wayne's always been a bit of a harmless idiot. One of his past highlights is being incredibly drunk on the James Whale TV show. Worth a watch if you've got a spare 4 minutes.

I thought their opening song was really good. Great build up, strong voice. Then the second song sounded really like the first, then their third song sounded really like their sec....bugger this I'm off to the bar..

It is possible Wayne was attempting humour. I attended Leeds. I rated The Mission as pretty good although there was at least one song where it seemed that it was Wayne on his own playing over a backing track/tape loop kind of thing. Did anyone else notice this at any gig, or can update me on technology?

PS Alice and troupe were great at Leeds
