I remember this broadcast. I was 15, and after the first few lines of embarrassing script, I left the house in a hurry to escape it. There was a thing with Valerie Perrine, too, which had the same effect on me.

I remember Alice talking about this, that after the GTH sequence, which is brilliant, Diana Ross felt she was being upstaged so 'invented' a lifetime achievement award. Classic.

Saw this when it was released and even at 14, thought it was cheesy and Alice trying too hard. Although not as bad as He was during the Second Annual Rock Awards in '77...almost too painful to watch
