I give it a 6/10. This album has some really cool songs, but on a whole, most of them feel like fillers. I keep playing it to see if I will change my mind and it hasn't. The creativity of Alice's of brilliance is just not there....I like W2MN much better!!!!!!!!! In fact I happen to love W2MN.,,,,sorry.

Hell yeah! media hatred is brought on by dictators. It's a tactic so you think that the only truth is coming out of them. This was how Hitler was born........oh humans, they are such easy prey.

Oh.. what a surprise.... :/

Nuclear Blast are listing this as 1CD for less then the normal 2CD edition... Can't find anything else though. Wonder what the selling point on this one will be.

Now that we're down the road a piece from the release of Paranormal, there's three or four songs I still listen to. Maybe releasing an EP every year would be a good idea. In the course of the past 6 years since W2MN, we would have gotten 24 songs instead of 12. And the quality would probably be much higher, because the focus would be on making those 4 songs their very best. With his busy schedule, this seems much more do-able.

If anyone is interested, then my review of Paranormal can be found here:

In short, I gave it a solid 8 out of 10.

:bam: Turrible song and album...

Probably because it doesn’t sound “exactly” like it

Si - Will you be doing an official review for the website? I was eager to read your thoughts.

Not sure. I suppose I should, but I was partially waiting to see what others thought first. I did the initial impressions thing on the news page after the press release.

Paranormal has a simpler arrangement of instruments, and sounds much better than, W2MN - I really like Alice's voice, the drums and the guitars for the most part.

There are 4 songs I don't care for at all - GAG being the worst of the bunch, followed by HW, SOA and FIL.

New rating: 5/5 (When compared against any rock album released in the past 35 years). Paranormal is easily his best overall solo record - and that's saying a lot.

I agree with Padre
his best solo effort whatsoever imo. No fillers (except perhaps Rats).
Recently read another review stating that Alice made a "shockingly good record" , and a comment from a buyer stating that "should this be the last album ever made by Alice" , he could live with that !

Wow, that shows how subjective music is.I think the new album is okay but I don't love it. I am a bigger fan of his solo work than the original band (though I love it all) but I can think of a ton of his solo albums I prefer over Paranormal and that includes its predecessor W2MN.

Agreed. Rats is filler-like to me, although no tracks are unlistenable, there are some that just don't catch my ears. Again, the sound of the recording is more in my wheelhouse than anything he's done in decades. Kinda hope he's got a few more albums in him at this rate.

+1 from me.

I personally thought Private Public Breakdown and Dynamite Road were the only real weak links on the album.
