This has been bugging me for a while, so thought I would ask.

At the end of Chop, Chop, Chop, what is the reason for Alice reading out the letters of the name Mary but pronouncing it as Gail?

I love it but am also baffled!

the second name of Sheryl is Gail...
don't know if it has something to do with it , though..

Basically you summed it up perfectly. I don't think that there was any significance to the name "Mary".

who knows? Maybe he was looking at Ken Mary when he was writing the lyrics

Well as he is hunting prostitutes, another way to interpret Mary was the fact Jack the Rippers most famous victim was Mary Jane Kelly

i assume it was only cos it has 4 letters and fit in w/ the lyric flow.

I am so unfamiliar with this album. It is pretty much inlistenable. I didn't know he was hunting prostitutes, It begs the question is it ok for Alice/Spider to kill only prostitutes as opposed to women in general? Could it be that Alice ( because of his Christianity ) thinks they deserve it?

chop, chop, chop/gail/roses is a fantastic trilogy. No doubt,
But yes he is killing prostitutes and thinks they are all "gail" he reads the anklet which says mary but he then twists it in his mind to be gail.

Both names could be inspired by ken and his missus (i always presumed as such)

Kind of a cheap shot. He put an abstinent shunner of pornography in hell, so clearly not placing judgment on overt morality, or lack thereof.

I think the original plan was to have the character be in the habit of killing nuns. Shep had him change it as he felt it may hurt album sales in Vatican City.

Also I think originally Alice spelled out the name "Shirley" but after they played it back it just didn't sound right. He then tried "Esther" but that too didn't work.

Great song from a great album. RYFAY is one of my favorite Alice albums.

Me too. I absolutely love it. I just wish Alice wouldn't completely ignore it.

I'm definitely a fan of the trilogy and the album in general. Cooler than Trash and comes close to the intense feeling you get at a live show.
