Let's not blow things out of proportion. RYFAY is a marked improvement on Constrictor but that's not saying much. The production still lacks any meat, there are still a bunch of pretty juvenile and lazy lyrics and apart from the last three tracks, it has a lot of filler.
But yeah, it's still miles better than ACAS.

The only thing I agree with is the production. This is an album that could really use remastering.
As for Alice having a problem playing these songs because of his beliefs. I can remember reading on this very site, someone here who met Alice and asked him about it. Alice apparently said he's thought about doing the trilogy and had certain ideas for Calico and him to do if they did perform them. That must have been nearly a decade ago though.

RYFAY was recorded, mixed and mastered in DDD....meaning, it was all digitally done at every phase of making the album. The code is on the back of the CD. So, I don't think it can be "remastered" any better...

RYFAY was mixed digitally also...again....I don't think it can be mixed any better. Again: "DDD" means digital recording, digital mixing, and digital mastering....now, if you disagree with what Michael Wagener did with producing the album....that is a whole different issue....but, since analog was not involved in the process, I don't believe there is any room for change, except maybe make it "louder"....which is annoying. That is the process, where the album's levels are increased.

Just because it's digital doesn't mean it can't be remixed as long as the multitrack is available and whose to say the current mix can't be improved upon.

That's nonsense. I'm guessing you don't know much about how digital mixing works? Of course it can be mixed differently.

Yes. It's an awful album.
Would rather listen to ACAS than DaDa.

Totally agree, never understood all the love for Dada. Formerly is great and then a couple more good songs. With RYFaY, I love Freedom, the trilogy, and couple more good songs.

Fair enough, music is subjective and all that.
You are still wrong though.

RYFAY is a great album, recorded digitally, and produced fantastically. I couldn't imagine any changes that could make an improvement.

Why do you keep repeating that it was 'recorded digitally'? Almost all music is recorded digitally these days! It doesn't mean anything.
And to say the production is fantastic is simply not true.... it's pretty poor when you compare to other hard rock albums released around the same time.

For my money it is a well produced album which could maybe of done with a little bit more on the bottom end. it can feel a touch flat sometimes but other than that it captures the energy and power perfectly.
The "yeah!" alice gives on Step on you in the middle of Kane's superb solo is just delicious. The producer captured the moment (and many more like it) perfectly.

Nita mentioned yesterday that she had Freedom stuck in her head - could it be an inclusion on this years tour ?

I REALLY REALLY hope that is the case...Freedom is my all-time favorite song of Alice's and having never seen it done live other than old bootlegged tours of RYFAY, this would be the best present the setlist ever has done for me...other than if he brought in the trilogy but trust me, if Freedom is in the setlist (which at how rocking of a song it is, how it hasn't been included over the years, is a mystery to me), then hearing that opening cord and that amazing chorus, seeing Nita just own it, and hearing Alice belt it out 30 years later would be beyond awesome...

Wouldn't freedom be on Alice's list of songs to never sing again?
Only because of the "back off preacher", "I ain't no angel", sort of, minimal respect for religious authorities
Vibe it has going on.
I am only making an assumption about that.
Not to piss on anybodys bonfire by the way, we are in the same boat, my favourite alice song is no mans land
And I've got more chance of seeing Villa win the championship this year than hearing that played live.
