Mojo - Vote For Alice Cooper's Best Albums
Every month, British music mag Mojo has a double page spread entitled 'How To Buy'. Readers are invited to send in their votes/reasons for a chosen artist's best albums. A top ten is featured, along with a short critique of each album; the 'best' readers' comments are also printed.
Next month it's going to be Alice Cooper. If anyone's interested, you can either post on Mojo's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MOJOmagazine/ OR email selections to mojo@bauermedia.co.uk with the subject:'How To Buy Alice Cooper'.
I've just emailed in my Top Ten (with comments), which are:
Killer
School's Out
BDB
LITD
Dada
WTMN
Brutal Planet
GTH
FTI

Top ten Alice Cooper albums:
Dada
Welcome To My Nightmare
From The Inside
The Last Temptation
School's Out
Killer
Raise Your Fist And Yell
Goes To Hell
Welcome 2 My Nightmare
Love It To Death
I'm not gonna email my choices to Mojo. I just don't feel like it. I seem to be only one here who doesn't hold Billion Dollar Babies in high regard.
I wouldn't put it in my top 13 Alice Cooper albums.

Re: Mojo - Vote For Alice Cooper's Best Albums
Out of curiosity, is there anyone who wouldn't include 'Killer' in their top ten, or doesn't rate it at all? It's been my favourite album, by anyone, since I first bought it back in '72, but I'd be interested to read any negative reviews.
Re: Mojo - Vote For Alice Cooper's Best Albums
1. Dada
The others I'll refrain from ranking as they change usually by the day. But these would fill out my other nine choices:
School's Out
Special Forces
Flush The Fashion
Goes To Hell
Billion Dollar Babies
Killer
Welcome To My Nightmare
The Last Temptation
From The Inside
Zipper Catches Skin would also rank in there.

Pitkin,
I thank you for giving us an honest selection.
You included your personal Faves yet gave respect to the others.

Re: Mojo - Vote For Alice Cooper's Best Albums
There must be somebody surely! We all have different tastes. Alice's work has crossed over many aspects of the rock genre and infuriated some and delighting others whenever he changes course. I seem to be the only one who doesn't really rate WTMN but would anybody put Along Came A Spider in their top ten?concolz wrote:Out of curiosity, is there anyone who wouldn't include 'Killer' in their top ten, or doesn't rate it at all? Re: Mojo - Vote For Alice Cooper's Best Albums
My new issue of Mojo has just arrived! (Due to having a subscription, I tend to receive it a few days earlier than the shops.) Here's the readers' top ten:
1. Killer
2. Love It To Death
3. School's Out
4. Billion Dollar Babies
5. Welcome To My Nightmare
6. Dada
7. From The Inside
8. Dirty Diamonds
9. Trash
10.Brutal Planet
Well, the top seven, and number ten, aren't a surprise, but the other pair are! (I quite like 'DD', although it does get bogged down with filler at times.)
The two-page article is mostly positive. There's an assertion that AC "has yet to emulate the capacity of his peers (Bowie, Pop, Reed) for reinvention and late-career births", which I don't really agree with. (The WB 'lost years' quartet, and the later 'morality' trio (TLT/BP/DT), show that Alice was quite capable of exploring a few unusual musical nooks and crannies, if he wanted to.)
One of the journalist's comments that I do agree with though is: "There is ample proof here that most ACG members could write great songs, and Cooper has still to find a co-writing foil to match guitarist Michael Bruce."
(For anyone thinking about buying the magazine: it's the November(!) issue, with Lou Reed on the front cover.)

From concolz:
"One of the journalist's comments that I do agree with though is: "There is ample proof here that most ACG members could write great songs, and Cooper has still to find a co-writing foil to match guitarist Michael Bruce."
As we all should know by now, they weren't a traditional partnership when it came to composing so that statement doesn't really make a lot of sense.
