Re: His voice is too ugly to sing "Poison"
It's been said before by the guilty parties, "Trash" was calculated to bring Alice back.
It succeeded!
Why continue to trash "Trash"? 'Because it stirs people up" is a lame excuse.
It's an enjoyable slice of late '80's "Hair Metal"!
Can we at least leave it at that & quit dissecting it?

I love the Thrash album. A go to song is Spark In The Dark that is so Rock and Roll and AC.
Voice sound ugly, NO WAY. In concert and in the studio they can hold back the distortion on AC's voice.

Alice's vocal in the studio works really well on poison in my humble opinion.
I always thought it was cool to have Alice's raw snarl over quite a polished piece of music,
I think we get a bit jaded with the song when we hear it live tour in / tour out, now of course,
I'm not foolish enough to think it would ever get dropped from the set but the truth of the matter is
It just can't be done justice live.
Alice stated once the backing vocals took 4 days to perfect and record, now, the current band, awesome
As they are, we're not selected, I'm sure, for their vocal prowess, so the harmony/ backing vocal live rarely,
If ever, comes close to making poison a great live track.
The best live version I have heard is probably on 'a fistful of Alice', however, that's not to say things weren't
Fixed in the mix.
Anyway I agree with the post that stated poison sticks out like a thorn in the set list. The live sound these days
Is still within the garage Rock, raw, EOAC style and quite simply, poison will never translate well into that.

All the songs on Trash were polished or in other words smooth sounding.Phil wrote:I always thought it was cool to have Alice's raw snarl over quite a polished piece of music
Trash use WAY more drums than guitar though. I don't think there's much guitar at all. It's all over shadowed by the drums and vocals.

his voice is PERFECT for the song. to quote the Crue, this ain't a love song - it's a sex song.Rocknroll wrote:I really don't understand why "Poison" is among his most popular hits, his voice basically kills the song for me. His voice is far too ugly to sing a beautiful song like "Poison".

Trash is great and alices' voice on that whole album (poison especially) oozes with sexuality and danger.

It sure oozes something! Better wear gloves---it's toxic!Saint&Sinner wrote:Trash is great and alices' voice on that whole album (poison especially) oozes with sexuality and danger.
The only danger in that album is to good taste in music!

About as dangerous as Rod Stewart in a spandex leotard.

Trash is not rock at all. It's pop-rock, drum-rock.Saint&Sinner wrote:Trash is great and alices' voice on that whole album (poison especially) oozes with sexuality and danger.
There's way too much drums, and very little guitar. That was a huge problem with the music back in the 80's, the drums over shadowed the guitar.
I despise the sound of drums, it's just ugly and ruins music. If I were an artist, I would only use guitar.
