The issue with production on Music from the eldar and lace and whiskey is that it is bloated and pompous but with no power or verve. When listening to both albums they feel flat and lifeless, there doesn't seem to be any spark or energy to any of it. I am not talking about the music at all (which is a whole other story)
The production jobs are passable but no where near the normal high quality sound we had come to expect from him, or equaled to some of his later works.
DADA and its colder, slightly more clinical style suits the sparsely populated music and lyrics well. granted it wouldn't work on every album but it manages to suit DADA well - and i am far from a fan of the album, believe me.
I may not like Something to remember me by, but that was my point, it still works on a production level.
The eyes and dirty diamonds both didn't sound great but this was a deliberate choice to hark back to that garage sound. Although even with that dirty diamonds sounded flat and dull compared to the eyes which for the most part popped. Along came a spider was a horrible mess of a production job which was muddy and unfocused trying to pull in too many directions at once but without the deft hand of a master like bob.

MFTE is way, way overrated and basically a terrible idea of a KISS album on just about every level.

Agreed.
But on a separate level, the production sucks too!

I've never heard it but as the general consensus is that it isn't any good (based on a couple of google searches any general kiss biog) to be overrated it must be really bad! :)

For what it's worth NFTE has always been one of my favourite Kiss albums....

Again I haven't heard it but it does have a fairly bad reputation. Whereas DaDa is considered something of a lost gem. In any case I'm sure everybody here would rather you stay put and your coat remain on the hook!

The remastered CD (put out a long time ago, now) sounds better than the album has ever sounded, but it's still a muddy mess.

I don't hate Music from the Elder, but it's easily the least KISS-sounding album in their catalog.

Only to the diehard fans who like it though. To most it (and FTF,SF and SF) aren`t rated highly AT ALL. Those albums don`t sound like Alice Cooper to most people, and as Hunter says The Elder doesn`t really sound anything like Kiss, so if you go there expecting 'Rock and Roll All Night' you will be disappointed. I've always looked at it as a side project rather hen a proper Kiss album.

Another thing that hurt MFTE album was the image at the time. It was AWFUL.

Gene's look at the time was even worse than Paul's.

Aren't those the discoguys that made I was made for loving you, though?

Just kidding, KISS is (was) all right in its own context.

Even that still sounded like KISS. Very little of Music from the Elder really sounds like KISS, IMO. "I" is the only song I can think of that sounds like a typical KISS song.

Even the pop stuff on Unmasked sounds more KISS-like.

CONCLUSION: Bob Ezrin is WORTHY. (I did the math.)

You know, there is a whole lot more to Bob Ezrin than just Alice, Floyd, and Kiss. He is a world-class producer with lots of diversity to his credit. Jayhawks, Trevor Rabin, Robin Black, etc... I contend that his worthiness is irrefutable.

Thankfully, I am glad to see that Bob still finds Alice worthy of him!

If you want to hear a very under rated album bob worked on get 30 Seconds to Mars debut. Echelon is worth 14.99 alone. Would love to see them tour together.
