I think that is widely off base.

No doubt Bob Ezrin will love that comment!

I think we've been through this before - the delay was primarily in waiting for people to be available to record their parts.

I think that's a little unfair. Personally I expected pretty much what we are getting, straight covers. BUT it's not that unusual for an artist to take a song and completely rework it or add something different or their own spin to it. Alice has done it before ('Because') but not really on HV (from what I've head so far).A_MichaelUK wrote: What were you expecting though? I agree in part, but then if you look at something like Tori Amos's 'Smells like Teen Spirit' the melody and structure are the same, but the result is very different.A_MichaelUK wrote:From Si:

Yes I agree, but if you completely change say, the melody or the basic structure of it, you may as well write a completely new song (which may have been a better idea to begin with).

"Shall I call Bob and say sorry"
No, there's no need for that.

For a master class in how to produce a brilliant cover, compare/contrast Husker Du's original 'Diane', with Therapy's version. Both rock bands; the former's a template of grunge fuzziness, the latter a brooding, chilling epic. It shows what can be achieved.pitkin88 wrote:A_MichaelUK wrote:From pitkin88:

Yeah pretty much impossible to make a rock song any different than the original.
Perhaps because that was just one cover on a whole album of original songs. A whole album of straight covers with very little of the artist's stamp on the songs has very little appeal to me.A_MichaelUK wrote: "Yes but again, you can look at any of the cover songs Alice has done and they're all, for the most part, very faithful to the originals. I don't remember people whining about his version of "Pretty Ballerina" for example and that was very close to the original.
Good spot-listened to them again this morning- on SO,I got a line and MG I can hear enough difference from originals and past covers to interest me. I like DDF (the chorus? behind sounds a bit like the Muppets crossed with a London musical to me)bigbradwolf wrote:Not sure if it's been mentioned already but Schools Out, Dead Drunk Friends, I Got A Line On You and My Generation now on youtube as vevo videos...Enjoy!
