The Beatles had their records burned too. They were hardly the most dangerous band in the world.

in the same line, an article i read in january 73 , to show how people saw this "new thing":

the sky burst and thousands and thousands soapbubbles descent upon the heads of the innocent mass. A roaring sound wraps them in like giant cottonwool. Right in front of us the color of the scene changes every second. In the midts, there he stands and wriggles. As much disgusting as exciting. His name: Alice Cooper.
The end of the show. People are leaving. A mass of decadent rubbish on stage, reminding the hellish spectacle. Lots of paper, pounds of feathers, paper, plastic from torn balloons are the silent witnesses of this new direction in pop. Alice Cooper, the american magicien, preaches violence on stage. Some are finding this show and music awesome, others don"t understand the fuss, thinking it's all messed up, with music hard to listen to.
Between these two opinions there"s nothing : you are caught by Alice Cooper or not.

that was just before the BDB lp

two more quotes from this article
-q : what will you do after this european tour ?
-a : we have the intention to bring our show to Broadway
-q : the musical Hair started there too
-a : we are making a real rockmusical. not like "Hair" : that was for middle-aged people.
you really wouldn't understand..
