Josef Chirowski's 'Clarinet' an WTMN

First why is is it called a clarinet twice on the album sleeve. I can understand once as a misprint
And far more importantly does anybody know what kind of effect he was routing it through. Is it a Ring Mod or something like a Mu-Tron Flanger?

Yes I know that (sorry I should have made that more clear) I have one myself. I was just wondering what effect he was using on it.
