Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoopid?

Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop
Firstly, I'm sorry for my poor English.
I think Trash is as important as Hey Stoopid.
Without Might as Well Be on Mars , I regard Trash is superior.
To say nothing of "Poison" "House of Fire" "Hell Is Living Without You" , I even love "Why Trust You" .
On the other hand, I don't like "Feed My Frankenstein" so much.
I think Desmond Child is the most dedicated producer since Alice's comeback.(please read the interview below).
Actually, Trash was produced more precisely than the other 80's albums.
Some say Trash sounds like "Alice Bon Jovi", but it is just that Desmond Child wrote and produced the music,
even though they sound a little too top 40(like Bon Jovi or Aerosimth songs penned by Desmond Child.)

As for Hey Stoopid, except the title track, I love "Dangerous Tonight" "Might as Well Be on Mars" ,
which are (partly) penned by Desmond Child. So I even imagine what if Desmond Child produced Hey Stoopid.
I wanted one more hit album.
Of Course I love Hey Stoopid. But I remember ex-guitarist Al Pitrelli said (Japanese HM magazine Burrrn!)
demo versions (of HS) were better than the album. He is tough (or negative) on Hey Stoopid.(4/10. see below link)
Every man has his own taste.

As for his uniqueness, may be Trash was nothing new- like Flush the Fashion.

And,apparently, the Trash album was supposed to be called ""Low Class"" Reunion, instead. So, would you have preferred this title?

WOW, never heard that before.Rhapsody of Fire wrote:The album Trash was superior and the song Poison was a big hit because of this. Sounds familiar?

Yes, wawwwwww... The main riff of Poison came from this John Waite's song, called ''Encircled'' which was also co-written by John McCurry. Learned it from this very site, here. I'm sure that it was done correctly, regarding credits and royalties.TAC wrote:WOW, never heard that before.Rhapsody of Fire wrote:The album Trash was superior and the song Poison was a big hit because of this. Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop
I read an interview with John McCurry a while back where he openly states that "Poison" was a re-working of a song he wrote for/with John Waite.
If I remember it right--Desmond Child hand picked songs to which he either added things--mainly lyric-- and reworked songs that he felt would be hits for Alice Cooper.
I think most of the songs were NOT written for Alice but brought to the table and then made to fit Alice. Alice did write lyrics but who knows how much. The lyrics on this album are just to damn generic and far beneath Alice.
House Of Fire was a song co-written by Joan Jett and sounds like a song written for Joan Jett. It's my opinion that they are NOT Alice's lyrics--they sound like the stuff that Joan Jett writes.
Alice has a very unique lyrical style that is evident in almost all of the lyrics that he writes and although their are flashes of it on Trash it's my opinion that a lot of them are not Alice's lyrics. That is why they suck so bad!

Again, I'm sorry for my very poor English.
I think It is not unusual that Alice (of course Most artist)
rework somebody's song or "this song is similar to the song of the other artist".
For example,"Escape" is the same (reworking).
The title and chorus of "No More Mr Nice Guys" came from Sparks "(No More) Mr. Nice Guys",
but nobody says (about similarity) . Because the song stands on its own.
So I feel it's a bit unfair.
(As for Billion Dollar Babies, There is also many reworking parts).
It's important that the song stands on its own (I know opinions are divided).
I believe "Poison""House Of Fire" are Alice's masterpieces,
even though they are not original.
After all, those who don't like Desmond Child look down on Trash.

Did the title and chorus of No More Mr Nice Guy come from the Sparks song ?-would need convincing of that
You are an individual, just like everybody else.

See the link below
not whole chorus, but "No More Mr Nice Guy" part only

Hi..I can see point you are making especially re Escape but have listened to Sparks/Alice on their respective songs..I am not a great muso but I play a bit of guitar and I cannot pick up any great similarity re the chorus on the part you mention-maybe someone else can have a listen

From mr.barlow:
If I remember it right--Desmond Child hand picked songs
I think that only applied to about half of the songs on the album.
>was in half ofto which he either added things--mainly lyric--
No, I think that most although not all of those were as the result >of Alice's efforts.
>and reworked songs that he felt would be hits for Alice Cooper.
It varied, I think. In relation to say, the song "Trash", Then yes, although I think something like "House Of Fire" was retained in more or less its original form.
>I think most of the songs were NOT written for Alice but brought to the table and then made to fit Alice.
Again, I think that applied to about half of the material.
>Alice did write lyrics but who knows how much. The lyrics on this album are just to damn generic and far beneath Alice.
I wouldn't go that far but yes, he wasn't trying to write "Brutal Planet" that's for sure.
> It's my opinion that they are NOT Alice's lyrics--they sound like the stuff that Joan Jett writes.
Yes. The song is very close to its original form and I think Alice may have made only an extremely minor change but that would have been it.

From sumorider:
The title and chorus of "No More Mr Nice Guys" came from Sparks "(No More) Mr. Nice Guys",
Apart from maybe two notes, they are completely different.

Re: Why was Trash such a big hit over the superior Hey Stoop
Nobody says anything about the similarity because apart from the titles there really isn't any. Different rhythm, tempo, different melody and I'd guess different key. And your English is fine, in fact better than some of the native speakers heresumorider wrote:Again, I'm sorry for my very poor English.
