Today's 'Guardian' has a longish Alice article and - pass the smelling salts - it's full of praise for AC! Apart from describing Alice as 'an undisputed pioneer' and 'one of the best "bad" singers rock'n'roll has ever known', Simon Reynolds seems to really 'get' Alice Cooper. (Although there are one or two 'errors' along the way!)
The music critic succinctly sums up the band's successful modus operandi:- 'hard-riffing tunes...grand guignol theatrics...nihilistic sensibility, as repellent to older rock fans as parents..."sick things" and death!' He understands 'WTMN's concept/influences and uses a very apt turn of phrase for early 80's Alice - 'drained and distracted'. Even the readers' comments, at the foot of the article, are almost all extremely positive. Blimey!
