>the other obvious option is that Alice actually WANTS to do a covers album ....

What a shocking concept.

>( not sure about his casual fans )

As I've said many times here, that material goes down very well with that particular section of the audience.

>His voice is getting as bad as Rod's I suppose.

I don't know how you're in a position to make that statement given that by your own admission, it has been years since you have been to an Alice Cooper concert. Although there have been isolated examples of problems with his voice (due to the strain of touring as much as anything else), his singing (especially in the studio) is better than it has ever been.

Going by what I have seen on YouTube pretty qualified. His voice does not sound better now than the peak years. Delusional. Old age happens my friend.

You should know better than to use that as a gauge.

Some nice sounding pro shot stuff on You Tube. You are not able to comment though as you only watch official videos.

You really need me to tell you the peak years?

I listen to recordings direct from the soundboard though, not a compressed file.

>You are not able to comment though as you only watch official videos.

Similarly, you are not able to comment on the soundboard recordings.

>You really need me to tell you the peak years?

Yes. Tell me "the peak years" when Alice's voice was better than it is now, because unless you're not listening, his voice is now in far better condition.

Well, I guess that is a matter of what you think and like. For me the peak years was between 71 and 75. This was when he really had this pshycho evil voice, clear and crispy. To me his clearly best album singingwise is BDB. On this album he is on all ranges and styles. He would not had outdone that perfomance if he had recorded that album again today.

I have have seen Alice numerous times live over the years and there is no doubt that he is struggling more these days which of course is natural. He is after all 66. So I disagree with you Dada God. He was better during the "peak years " that is 71-75. And BTW, my hearing is very good !
It`s all in this luney tune....

I completely disagree. During "the peak years", he didn't really care about singing because all of the emphasis was on the image and the show. During that time, he was often just yelling, rather than singing, the lyrics.Remember, we're talking about singing during a concert not while recording. During "the peak years", he abused his body and his voice due to his drinking. Since 1986, his voice has actually improved. He could (if you ask me) look after his voice a bit more, but in general, he is in far better shape than he was then as he doesn't drink anymore - he breathes better during a show, he is fitter, he doesn't get out of breath, the show itself becomes a form of vocal exercise, he understands more about what his voice can and can't do and while, as with many singers as they get older, he may have lost the ability to reach what used to be his highest register, his voice is now richer and fuller and more controlled than it has ever been.

Alice's voice has changed as most singers do with age when the upper register can diminish. He may have not been able to sing a song written years ago but recorded on the last album (Something To Remember Me By) but I prefer his voice from 1971- 1975, vocally those studio recordings are untouchable by anything he's done since with the exception of From The Inside when he returned to form.

He's still pretty dam good though!
Lead guitar on Social Debris. Album on iTunes, Amazon & Spotify, title track featured on TV

We are discussing singing live not on a recording.

According to a recent interview on a German website, the new album will include 4-5 new songs, let's keep our fingers crossed.

Re Alice's voice, soul is everything and technical perfection be damned! I don't want a perfect run through of Eighteen or any songs, I can listen to the studio version if I want that. Live experiences should be more spontaneous, warts and all. What's appealing is the raw energy and unpredictability of a Cooper experience and that's what came through not surprisingly in the younger years.

To Alice's credit he seems to work hard to get his vocals right these days which shows that people's goals change as their abilities and attitudes change.

This was definitely the case at the shows that I attended this summer.

Going to pass on this. I'm sorry but it's been three years of the same thing. W2MN could have had a killer show behind it but Alice didn't touch it. I'd rather have another Dirty Diamonds than a covers album.

However, if he's covering William Shatter's rendition of Elton John's Rocket Man as a bonus track...I'm all over it.

Speaking of covers, without thinking too long, name the Alice album which contains the most cover songs.....

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say Billion Dollar Babies? (I think Generation Landslide is a cover... I can't remember but I do know Hello Hooray was a cover and a good one too!)
