Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
Haven't done one of these in a while. 2 classics but I have to give a slight nod to TLT. Your turn.....

TLT is a masterpiece. BP is very good, but not on the same level.

Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
That is a tough one, 2 brilliant albums, but i think i'm just giving TLT the nod.
Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
For me, Brutal Planet is a masterpiece. Not only do I think it's one of his very best solo albums - ranking alongside WTMN and FTI - but I'd even place it up there with the four classic ACG records. Alice sounds totally rejuvenated and has a lot to say.
I like the heaviness, the darkness that's occasionally lightened with some fine humour. Lyrically, I think it's as good as any of Bob Dylan's 'social commentary' albums of the 60's - 'Pick Up The Bones' is right up there with 'Masters Of War'.
As for TLT, well I think it's quite good - in the same way that I think MOL is quite good - but nothing special. Yes, it's a trillion times better than Trash and it's got the 'Real Alice Cooper' running through it like a stick of rock but, for me, it just sounds rather lumbering and lumpen. I love 'Lost In America' and 'Nothing's Free' yet song for song I actually think the more frivolous Hey Stoopid comes out better.

Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
This is a tough one because I would rank both of them in my Top 5 Alice albums ever. I would have to pick The Last Temptation if forced to choose. It has some of the elements of early Alice, while also sounding modern as well. I would love to see Alice bring back "Nothing's Free" into the setlist.
Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
Brutal Planet is better because of the aggression though would have been much tighter without the token redundant ballad. The Last Temptation was a step in the right direction after a bunch of very ordinary releases. Unholy War is a tuneless mess and would have been better being shelved.
Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
I have no hesitation in saying Brutal Planet. I just like the heavier sound and the concept much more.
Maybe its just me, but it feels like Alice was trying to hard with TLT. Some of the lyrics are just dumb, for lack of a better word.

Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
I love The Last Temptation...but Brutal Planet for me...I was completely mesmorized by the lyrics and the show that went with it just made the album come alive even more...
The title track, Gimme, Wicked Young Man, Pick Up the Bones, It's the Little Things, Cold Machines...heck the whole album is just perfect...

Brutal Planet - Nu-Metal?
Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
This is a tough one as I love both of them, but would give the nod to THE LAST TEMPTATION by a narrow margin...very narrow.

Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
I'd say TLT. This was my very first Cooper album I bought as a young lad. I only had heard The Alice Cooper Show at a friend's before. To me, the songs on TLT are brilliant, and the good vs evil plot works perfectly for me. Favourite songs is Bad Place Alone, I could do without It's me.

Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
I have a question for the people that love TLT. What are your feelings specifically about the song "Lost in America?"

Love it. Remember watching him play it on Top of the Pops and thinking it was the best thing i'd seen in ages.pinkerton wrote:I have a question for the people that love TLT. What are your feelings specifically about the song "Lost in America?"

Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
Think the lyrics of that song are pretty much the feeling of the average American nowadays. Although i give TLT the edge over BP, this is imo the weakest song on the album. Lyrically, they are both stunning albums though, along with WTMN and FTI, the nearest i can get to the standard of the originals.....IMO

Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
Lost in America is a fun song that always worked well live. It didn't exactly fit with the sounds of the rest of the album and is one of the weaker tracks on the album but still good stuff. "It's the Little Things" doesn't entirely fit with some of the other songs on Brutal Planet either. It is a little more uptempo and even though some of it sounds relevant when you consider the brutality of all the recent shootings and other things, lines like "Weclome To My Nightmare, No More Mister Nice Guy" is more toungue in cheek than the other songs, but still a fun track.
Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
Depends on the day, but I'd probably say Brutal Planet more often than not. But its a close call between the two.
Re: Brutal Planet vs. The Last Temptation
My problem with TLT is that I feel it gets quite weak in the second half...never been too fond of Unholy War and Lullaby. I used to like It's Me, but not much anymore, and Cleansed by Fire is OK but not stellar. I think the first half of the album is really strong, though.
