Acknowledgement of Alice in songs/videos
Been thinking ...there are direct references to AC in songs like They Might be Giants "Why must I be sad" (see/hear you tube) and on video from memory with S Tyler having an Alice look at end of "Living on the Edge" plus Adam Ant - "Prince Charming"-now us Alice fans can perhaps see references even where there are none-When the Stones brought out "Its only RnR" with its lyric about-stick a knife in my heart/suicide right on stage with sailor costumes I would say that the lyrics, sailor costumes and make up were strong nods to AC- what do you think?
Are there any non obvious references/nods to AC that you hear/see?

Re: Acknowledgement of Alice in songs/videos
I remember back in 76 an lp by Roderick Falconer (New Nation) : I bought it because the advertisement said it was something between Alice Cooper and David Bowie.
Songs like Public Enemy or Baby Doll made this suggestion even stronger.
somewhere in the lyrics there's even talk about million dollar babies..
always wondered if this was by coïncidence or not.
Never heard about this guy later on.

Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar also may have a lil nod to Alice, Even Alice commented about it years ago

"Scared" by Dangerous Toys and (I don't know if this counts for the purposes of this thread) in the film "Celebrity" there is a reference to the effect of "the rock star upstairs with the snakes". Also, there's "Earache My Eye" by Cheech And Chong and "Spitting Image" did a parody of Kenneth Clark in the style of "School's Out".

Forgot about Cheech and Chong...will check out "Scared" by DT- If Celebrity is the Woody Allen film, Woody has form of course in Annie Hall for joking, something like, six people taken to hospital with bad vibes at an Alice Cooper concert(will have to look up exact quote)

Yes and according to James Randi, Alice was an extra in "Sleeper" although I don't think that's ever been confirmed.

Re: Acknowledgement of Alice in songs/videos
I will have to check out Sleeper again- I am a fan of Woody's films expecially early ones-just watched bbc docu on his career-think 2nd part on tonight- and obviously will check out Celebrity- watched Dangerous Toys video and read lyrics-I should have picked up on this one before-ta for pointing out

He and Alice knew each other a little at one point in the seventies (Alice and I often try to quiz each other with lines from the films). Alice does a great Allen impression.

I think Madonna was executed by electric chair during one of her tours (the singer in the band, Disturbed as well, I think).

Re: Acknowledgement of Alice in songs/videos
The quiz with Alice sounds fun- I can believe he does a great Woody Allen impression as he seems good at taking off the voices of many people-I wonder whether Alice recorded Clones as some kind of reference to Sleepers film-I think a lot of celebrities in USA in 70s could see the humour/vaudeville and various other aspects of Alice- when perhaps the fans wanted more of the linear rock star as such- his influence definitely lives on even if some of those influenced might not acknowledge it or admit it- as for Madonna, I can now recall this and this is a straight lift from Alice's act and a compliment imo

I am almost certain that Paul McCartney said that "Silly Love Songs" was inspired by "No More Mr. Nice Guy" (and if you think about it, there is a connection).

Britney spears singing with a snake....
Re: Acknowledgement of Alice in songs/videos
OK, i've thought about it Andy-the connection between NMMNG and Silly Love Song-is the connection that they are both responding to comments/criticism from reporters-macca for writing sentimental songs-Alice for well being Alice on stage???....correct/incorrect?

Andy is right, "Scared" by Dangerous Toys (that entire album is great by the way) has tons of Alice references such as "Lace and Whiskey on the top shelf" and if I recall the album jacket says "dedicated to Alice Cooper" and at the beginning of the video if you look closely you can briefly see the Raise Your Fist and Yell album in the background (haven't seen the video in ages, need to look it up on You Tube.)

The image of the singer in Turbonegro was very influenced by Alice Cooper if that counts. There was a band (and there is a record company) called Halo Of Flies as well.
