one album with new versions of songs from FTF-SP-ZCS
What could be the title of that album?
What songs deserve to be on this imaginative album and in what order ?

As you probably know, that was the point (as the title of the album suggested).

Yep Andy, I was aware of that as you suspected-its just the degree(minimalism?) it seems to have been taken to which is good/surprising to me then and now...it seemed to flirt with new wave(which was always an ambiguous term imo) and still has a sort of punky attitude- I have never been able to decide how much it was intended and how much was left to fate (post production)- It seems like an overlooked album-others tend to champion DADA as a masterpiece- in a sense this is one too- and seems to be something that could have emanated from the subconscious, was born and thats it ( I am taking into account that Alice didnt write all the songs). Trying to be concise but equally trying to elaborate on my view. I was never sure what Fashion was being flushed (initially I thought it was punk but that wasn't that big in USA)-so now I think it was all fashion. Ramble over. I like the album.

>I have never been able to decide how much it was intended
Everything about the album was pretty much deliberate.
>I was never sure what Fashion was being flushed
Spending huge amounts of time and money on an album with lots of production, overdubs, arrangements or orchestration and having a leaner, rougher and harder sound instead. Try comparing it with "From The Inside" for example.
>(initially I thought it was punk but that wasn't that big in USA)
It was moving towards that, not away from it, which is why Alice was accused of jumping on that particular bandwagon (and new wave and electronic music as well, as the critics accused of him of doing as well).

Re: FF-SF-ZCS-DD
The fact that it was largely deliberate only raises in my estimation as it seems to be a comment against as you say overproduction/overdubs...Interestingly, I was going to contrast to FTI but was trying to keep concise...mind you the production on FTI was worth it imo.. I remember UK critic(s) sayinh he was cloning Gary Numan-not exact words-mine are better imo..ha..
Why did he pick Roy Thomas Baker as producer?

Yes and that was down to lazy journalism by just focusing on the keyboard sound.
>Why did he pick Roy Thomas Baker as producer?
I think because of his work with The Cars but I'm not sure.

Re: FF-SF-ZCS-DD
In Cleveland as late at 1980 Alice was still considered an important artist and WMMS (very influential radio station) played all the songs on the album when it was released. They only did that for major releases. The album wasn't in stores yet so hearing them the first time on the radio was strange. There was some excitement that Alice was "returning" to rock and roll with a vengeance. I had already heard Clones on the radio and loved it. Found myself split on the other songs but was glad that Alice was trying to be relevant again in a music scene that was shifting away from overproduced records towards punk and new wave.

Andy is spot-on regarding the "fashion" being flushed. Late '70's rock excess (productions, flirtations with disco, etc...) by most rock bands was rampant. Bands like The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Elvis C, (so many that could be mentioned!) brought back clean/ sparse productions. Alice's response was FTF. New look & sound. Great album, but I still prefer the "excess" Alice of From the Inside.

I was referring of course to FTF album.
I was torn. I thought FTI was one of his best albums and stage shows but unfortunately the music scene was changing, ironically it was moving towards what the AC band was doing much earlier, raunchy punk rock and roll.
The change in his image was too drastic from FTI to FTF, many fans couldn't handle it. SF Alice was more of a compromise between a new look and Alice still being Alice, but by that time people were losing interest in him.

I'm not sure about us losing interest in the UK. It was like Alice just disappeared. Warner's stopped getting behind him and there was very little in the press. Add to that he didn't tour there for 7 years. When he did come back in 82 the fans were there and the shows were well attended. I loved the new look and it was right for that time.

LOVE DaDa pretty much a flawless album.
Flush The Fashion a good solid album.
Special Forces has some great moments, but some not so great ones.
Zipper Alice's worse album in my opinion don't find much to enjoy about it.
