Blind Speculation

Post by Daggers & Contracts » Sat Jun 29, 2013 9:23 pm

I think it is time to compile a list of songs that we think could be used on the "Covers" Lp. Keeping in mind that it should have some historical and personal interest to those in the Cooper Camp.
My submission is...
The Hot City Symphony by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Featuring The Man In The Jar/Vambo
Alice is sure to have heard The SAHB after all they did cover "School's Out" and as a tribute to Alex (RIP) should cover this track. It has everything "Coop" Mystery, TMITJ and a character to assume, Vambo. We can make the list and send it Coops way or just use it as a reference when the album finally hits. Let's Go!!! *cloud9*

Alice should cover "Mack the Knife" in a "Cooperized" version.

>I think it is time to compile a list of songs that we think could be used on the "Covers" Lp.

I note your cute title for this thread, but unless you still haven't understood the article I provided a link to or haven't understood Alice's concept, your sentence above should maybe state "that we think could be used on a "Covers" Lp." and not "could be used on the "Covers" Lp." - it is quite a significant distinction.

> Keeping in mind that it should have some historical and personal interest to those in the Cooper Camp.

Again, that isn't what Alice stated is the concept. Did you read the article? If you want this thread to be about a concept of your choosing, then go ahead - go crazy (although it isn't as if there haven't been many other threads like this in the past on this board).

I have another song (or two) for the Coop to cover
What You Got from John Lennon and his Walls And Bridges album.
It has a real funky riff and fast paced enough to be useful.
However, the tune Lennon wrote with Nilsson from that Lp
Old Dirt Road is a little melancholy but not something that Cooper couldn't grasp
and it would be in line with the whole Hollywood Vampires thing. :kitty:

I'll include another song (or two) for Coop to cover.
These come from The Monkees. If the Sex Pistols can find a way to rock 'em hard I'm
sure Alice + Ezrin can figure it out.
Randy Scouse Git written & sung by Mickey Dolenz or
another ala "Look At You Over There, Ripping The Sawdust From My Teddy Bear"
Cuddly Toy by Nilsson keeping with the HV theme

One cover he might do well (and keeping with the Hollywood Vampires motif) is "Success Story" by The Who (THE WHO BY NUMBERS). It has the Alice sense of humor (it should, being written by John Entwistle) and rocks like a champ.
Maybe also, since there is a photo of Anne Murray with the HV's (in GOLF MONSTER), he could do "You Needed Me" :bam: or even "Snowbird" :/
Whatever he puts out, will be looking forward to it!

I will put forward for consideration a Harry Nilsson tune from Son Of Schmilsson.
Joy
Sure it's a Country tinged spoken word (mostly) song but it's very tongue in cheek and wouldn't be too different than what AC did with Saga Of Jesse Jane

That is a great song but I don't know what could be added to it. Without doubt SAHB were the best band I ever saw live.

Maybe not the best band I ever saw, but not very far off it.
Maybe Alice could cover 'Next'
I fondly remember the look of horror on my parents face when they saw SAHB perform it on the Whistle Test.

Here's one from Keith Moon on his Two Sides Of The Moon solo outing.
Naked Man written by Randy Newman
A song that's just silly enough "For Moonie"

I think, "Naked Eye" by The Who would be a great song for Alice to cover.

Stepping back into the '73 - '74 era, I think a song from Jagger/Richards would fit Alice nicely. He could use some of it in the middle of a "Goes To Hell" medley.
Dancing With Mr. D. by The Rolling Stones.

Again, you're forgetting the Hollywood Vampires connection (which is why The Sensational Alex Harvey Band wouldn't work either), which is the concept behind this project.

I'm enjoying the blind speculation and finding out about some songs that I have not heard before. Keep it coming.

Never forgot it- my interpretation of the article didn't say that it was strictly Hollywood Vampires songs that he would use.
Quoted from Rolling Stone...
"I would keep it right to about '73, '74. I don't want to just go anywhere. I want to keep it right in that sort of drunk era, so it's specific."
Unless you happen to know more about the album than you are letting on...
Let the speculation continue!

Not only is it heavily implied in the article under discussion, but it is also stated in a more explicit way in the interview at http://www.toledofreepress.com/2013/07/ ... ia-july-9/ which I will assume you have already read since there is a link to it on the front page.

Alice can change his mind at any minute and you can take with a grain of salt what he says in interviews.

That is correct. However, a very big clue is the "Raise The Dead" section of the current tour.
