The Coop's best guitarist?.....

Post by evil syd » Thu May 23, 2013 3:17 am

Name your favorite guitarist that has worked with him on a regular basis in his band?
(That's excluding guest guitarists like Slash, Satriani.....)
For me, it's a hard choice because it fluctuates from time to time. Mine now, is a toss up between the brilliance of Dick Wagner, and Kane Roberts. Now, in terms of Kane, the hair metal years were my least favorite of Cooper's career, but I loved Kane's style, completely unique.

I'm gonna say Ryan Roxie. "Brutally Live" is what got me started on Alice, so he was the first guitarist that I saw with Alice. I'm glad Ryan is back! :8):

Can't name just one. For me it's the Hunter/Wagner combo. Fitted together perfectly, both brilliant players.

I have to give the tip of the hat to Ryan Roxie.

A fine guitarist as well as a great singer/songwriter.

He adds so much to Alice's live performances.

the four that stand head and shoulders above the rest in terms of contribution are the Michael Bruce/Glen Buxton partnership and the Dick Wagner/Steve Hunter partnership.

Dick & Steve contributed as session players before Alice went solo as well.

No one can ever touch those 4 guys, Alice Cooper's golden age will always be the 1970s and those were the axemen that helped make the original band and later Alice as a solo artist what they/he was.
Lead guitar on Social Debris. Album on iTunes, Amazon & Spotify, title track featured on TV

I agree fully, they were the best ones.
The only reason why I mentioned the Rambo guitarist is because I just watched the live dvd and I found his style interesting. I have been trying to play some of it on my guitar for fun.

Post the original band my favorites are : Ryan Roxie, Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner. Because these three are the ones that captured the vibe and atmosphere of the old songs best.Eric Dover did a decent job at this as well.
Others has played them to heavy metalish. like for instance Kane Roberts.
I don`t think Orianthi do them justice either. In fact wouldn`t be at all dissaponted if she left. Alice don`t need three guitarist`s It`s more than enough with Roxie and Henriksen.
It`s all in this luney tune....

That would kick butt! I've never been sitting anything that could remotely be considered "close" when I've seen those two together on stage.

Glen Buxton Michael Bruce and Dick Wagner Steve Hunter where the key players that created the kind of guitar excellence that defines Alice Cooper . Also key was the writing partnerships that worked and worked in a big way . The significance of an artist like the coop to have great partners to bounce ideas off should never be underestimated .

The coop has had many great guitarists that have considerable technical abilities , but they have lacked the soul of the above players . It was smart to try and tap in to the modern markets with these slick hired guns . But suddenly two lots of musical partners have gone missing from the mix and it shows in much of the material .

Could not have said it any better than Criss did. I would add Mick Mashbir to the list. Glen's solos on Dwight Fry and School's Out are so original. Mike Bruce is very underrated as a guitarist- his playing on HHAlice is a great example of his talent. Alice probably wouldn't have had the solo success he achieved without Dick Wagner.

loved Kane's style, completely unique.
Unique? That was the most Archetypal/stereotyped heavy metal formulated axe-man style I can think of. :bam:

I would pick Michael Bruce and Glen Buxton, just for the fact that was THE Alice Cooper guitar style.

LOL! you're probably right. I guess I'm just caught up the whole unorthodox simple style of it.

I never really said he was the best, I just said lately I have been interested by it. My mind changes with Coop's guitarists because he has so many very talented ones. Dick Wagner, now that guy is truly one of my favorites. Buxton and Bruce were simply brilliant!
