I don't think he remembers that song.

Most of the songs on "Along Came A Spider" were pretty sad.

I always thought "I Never Wrote Those Songs" from Lace and Whiskey was quite moving .... and a great song as well

Wake Me Gently really gets me. I remember being a child and having nightmares and not being able to wake up. That song really captures that feeling. Really quite a scary song but it's so beautiful.
I agree that I Never Wrote Those Songs is very sad. Beautiful music and Alice sounds great.
And then there's the always heart-wrenching Disco Bloodbath Boogie Fever lol. I do love that song though.

"Pass the gun around", no contest. I really can't think of anything sadder, more tragic and sincere in Alice's catalogue. And I also think it's one of his most beautiful songs ever. With one of the most poignant guitar solos I heard so far, perfectly fitting the lyrics, voice and production. One of the saddest songs I know, in fact. Really.
To a lesser degree, I think that "I never wrote those songs" is a forerunner of "Pass the gun around".
I don't like it as much though, but I still think it's a beautiful song. The saxophone solo is a nice idea and it makes a great ending to the song. I only find the production to be a little too "Las Vagas" for me, if you know what I mean, but still enjoyable as the feelings of the song get through and reach me. All in alll, it's the track I like the most on "Lace & Whiskey". If the whole album had songs only like this one and "No time for tears", I think it would have been a fantastic and very interesting album.

"Every Woman Has a Name" is most assuredly by fave ballad, and it definitely fits as a sad one, too.
