Alice Cooper Plans Covers Album as Next Release

Post by AlongCameASpider27 » Wed Mar 13, 2013 7:42 pm

I know it was hinted at before but sounds like he has been giving it some serious thought. Said it would be released sometime next year after the Raise the Dead tour ends in December.

Fangs for the memory more like. Don't mind if he does "born to be wild","foxy lady", my generation" and even "lady is a tramp".Show tunes might be a bit too camp..which show tunes do you fancy GNDM?

I really wish he wouldn't, to be honest. It's a waste of his time as one of the best writers in business.

I will still buy it and love it, ofc.

Alice deserves to do whatever makes himself happy, of course. He has given the World more than ever can be asked of one man, many times over. But I am a greedy person. I admit I'd love more of his own songs. :)

This is the first time since I got into Alice as a kid that I can honestly say I have absolutely zero interest in an upcoming album relelease by Alice Cooper. At this point in his career it's the last thing I want from Alice. Especially after he's already been doing the covers section at his show.If it was a few bonus songs or a seperate album than I wouldn't mind, but I would very much rather a new original album. I hope he's happy doing though.

Boring. I'll take a pass on buying it. Never said that before about a Cooper release but it's true.

If Alice wants to do it , well he can do..But we need his lyrics, some fresh twisted music. He can record a covers album but also write a new album.I cant believe that 2011-2014(++) there won't be released new genious songs from him , even though he will still be touring :(

I have stated before that I hate the thought of Alice doing a covers lp, but if he does, I would much prefer doing any obscure tunes, or even show tunes instead of classic rock songs such as some of the ones mentioned and played on tour.
I think Sun Arise and Hello, Hooray came off much better on record than I Got a Line, Fire, or We Gotta Get Out of this Place. Although, the former tunes were from the original band and a much different era.

I like the idea - as a hold over until the next album. I think he has pretty damn good taste when it comes to picking songs to cover (7&7 Is, Talk Talk, Pretty Ballerina, Fire, We Gotta get Outta This Place). I hope he sticks to his garage band roots - which he seems to focus on when picking songs.. Sounds great doing the Stones stuff..

Maybe some involvement from the ACG as well - had to throw that in there..

I'm not keen on a coveralbum but maybe he will surprises us or me.
I will buy it as I do with all albums.
I rather hope for a good rock album.

He should have just recorded Born This Way and released it as a single. I LOVE his version of that.

can't say this is the most exciting Alice news ever, for me, but then i was totally apathetic about Garage, Inc and it turned out to be one of my favourite albums, so i'll keep and open mind.
also reminds me, i need to pick up Dee Does Broadway.

Didn't I read somwhere that Alice was again working with Bob Ezrin on the next album? So we could see both next year.

A covers album won't take much time to record at all, from memory Metallica took less than a month to record and mix the songs for there double LP garage inc.

in fact the album was recorded mixed and released all in a 3 month period.
(recording started September 14 album released November 24)

So if Alice does something like this then there won't be too much of a problem then go back to the new studio album and tour for this in 2014.

I too am passing on this effort. I want Alice Cooper to be just that, ALICE COOPER New music only. Very Selfish I know. I also know that he wants to flex his muscles on what he digs musically and it is definitley his right. But a cover CD is not Alice to me.

I have listened to his other covers and I pass them pretty quickly. I just do not dig them.

Just my Opinion.

Hopefully this covers talk is just talk. I thought Alice was saying he was working with Ezrin on something and Johnny Depp was also writing for it. IMO you have Alice who is one of the best song writers around, Ezrin one of the most respected and creative producers around and you have a band with Orianthi and Ryan Roxie in it and you want to do covers ???

Somwhere In Auckland wrote:Didn't I read somwhere that Alice was again working with Bob Ezrin on the next album? So we could see both next year.
In this interview, he talks about Ezrin working on the covers album:
I just kind of said, "We've never done a covers album, let's think about that." So [Bob] Ezrin and I are kind of bouncing it around right now.
This may be the next album to which he was referring....

I'm not against the idea of a covers album, but I really hope that they change the songs up a bit and not just do straight versions of them. To me a cover is at it's best when it does something different to a song. But I really hope they do a studio version of "Born This Way" cause that was great.

In an ideal world I would hope that they'd release both an album of new tunes and a cover album at the same time cause I think that would be a neat idea, but I doubt that'll ever happen.
