Sigh, those mistakes are unforgivable. Going to buy the book though... In fact, already bought it from a friend who bought it twice, hehe :) The book will arrive on Saturday, methinks!

I got my copy recently and just flipped through it. The pictures are OK but nothing spectacular.

Also quickly read the part about W2MN and he says that Runaway Train is a Michael Bruce song while When Hell Comes Home is a Dennis Dunaway song....

...not very encouraging in terms of the accuracy of the material.

This really does appear to be the most badly researched book ever written.

Almost makes you wonder how quick it was written. Like he did it over the weekend scanning the archives site.

That's why someone like Andy to do a book. As you know the research and talent would be there.

Well, you'd have one of those, at least, if I was involved but I think you would still need a good writer for all sorts of reasons. The strange thing about this book (which I admit I have not read yet) having these errors, is that the writer is very experienced. The faults in it, such as they are, may be as much due to bad editing as they are to bad research, but for some reason, I doubt it.

I presume this guy has an interest in Alice? Surely he ought to know these things?

I know some of you may find this shocking, but in the defence of the writer (that was the part that should shock you), he has written extensively on the subject of Alice Cooper before and is a very experienced journalist which is why I was so surprised at some of the basic errors that have been referred to. As I wrote earlier, I am beginning to suspect it is the editing which has not reached the required standard. I can't really comment much more on anyone else's comments until I've actually read the book.

Although he would ultimately change his name by deed poll to Alice Cooper, he waited until after the birth of his son, Damien Furnier'.
Which research error are we appalled at the most: the fact that he changed his name by deed poll WELL before he had children, OR that they can't get his son's name right??

Either way, I doubt I will buy the book because of this. I mean, the whole point of the book is for the accuracy and the facts - surely????

Sounds to me like ME, ALICE is more fact-based and accurate!

Also, I could be wrong but I think that a "deed poll" is actually an English legal document.

Yeah, I'd never heard of a deed poll and had to look it up. It is a UK-only document.

Great book! Glad to know I don't need to waste my money on it.

Reading it now. About 100 pages in.
There are a few pretty huge errors as mentioned above, but over all there is a ton of new information so far. The problem is that with errors like that, and the fact the "new information" often doesn`t quote a source and is sometimes at odds with what we "know", means you don`t really know how much of it is actually correct!! We can't take the information as 100% correct because of this.
For example he doesn`t point out that the Chicken incident was staged (which we've known for years), and then tells a story, as true, about killing a rabbit on stage.... First I've heard of it and no source is given.
With the known errors it's hard to take anything else as reliable which is a shame.
At another point he tells the Zappa audition story but it has a typo on the time (it says they arrived at 7PM not AM) which means they turned up in the evening and Zappa was just getting out of bed. Not impossible but not really the point of the story as it's always been told.

It seems well written though.

Dave Thompson and Omnibus Press have done their reputations no favours with this book.

I have pointed out on Omnibus Facebook page about the errors in a comment, how long it stays on there I have my doubts.

https://m.facebook.com/OmnibusPress?ref ... =779519275

"Dave Thompson is clearly a life long fan of the man-myth and his intro captures the confused, illicit thrill that shot through teenagers when School's Out rang bells in the summer of '72...It's an adrenalised story, rich with highs and lows, from Salvador Dali to David Blunkett..this is a killer schooling in Alice-ology".

Steven Crayn oh dear what terrible research and/or editing on the so called 'Welcome To My Nightmare' The Alice Cooper story when you can't even get his sons name right. Dave Thompson & Omnibus Press reputation has Gone To Hell with this and other basic errors that any Alice Cooper fan would be reluctant to waste their money on, come back Bob Greene all is forgiven!

God I haven't read that one for about 20 years. Well spotted. My point remains though that it's presented as fact when it is very unlikely to be true, which brings into question the other things in the book.
Has Thompson fallen into the trap so many have done before and believes everything that is written or said despite pointing out in the book how Alice and the gang were happy to make stuff up? A shame if he has as it brings into doubt so much of the "new" stuff in the book.
