Post by Holly Grail » Mon Mar 12, 2012 1:25 pm

I don't know if this one has been discussed.I don't even know if this song has a special meaning or is just a cool dirty little diamond.
I'd like to hear your point of view about it's lyrics.Really love it.

Very Stones-like, but still a good track.
If I may put forward a slice of personal colostomy...

Coop's best stuff is very Stones-like with big guitar riffs, and in fact he does a better show than the originals these days which was clearly evident when he opened for them. That said, his recent covers of Brown Sugar are a bit vocally weak. :8):

BTW, saying Coop is Stones-like is similar to saying the Stones are Berry-like. The highest form of flattery is imitation. The Stones need to tour in 2013 so we are assured of another 5 years of Coop performing.

YES!! I was a bit worried when they said Keith wasn't well enough - they need to go on for a long time yet, so that Alice will too.

Listening to it right now. I love everything about it, thanks to the impressive cohesion of it all: the cinematic mood, the great production, the very nice musical style, the vocal performance, the harmonica, the warm backing vocals during the chorus, the great & classic guitar riff, the melody, the bridge beginning with discreet percussions followed by the great female vocalist, the lyrics, for their imagery and the poetry they unleash, the humming backing vocalist at the end.... well, everything ! :)

Because the lyrics ( that are as moody as the music they lay on) are centered on images, they let you imagine what you want - and I like having that kind of freedom to "use my imagination" as Alice woud say....

I also think it would have fitted very well on "Together through life", Bob Dylan's 2009 album.
And on a recent Rolling Stones album too, of course !

And generally speaking, I LOVE Dirty Diamonds !!

..... Night's alive with music...... ;)

I really like this song too-for all the reasons Steven Lee Cooper mentioned and also because we get to hear Alice do some harmonica work as well. Think DIRTY DIAMONDS is one of his best-so many great songs I would love to see performed ;"Perfect", "You Make Me Wanna", "Sunset Babies" "Run Down The Devil" (this could be very interesting in a stage performance) and "Zombie Dance" ( ditto-think of all the roadies/dancers he could use in this).
