The Rolling Stone Review

Post by While Heaven Wept » Sat Sep 17, 2011 2:22 pm

Just wanted to say how disgusted i was with the review on The Rolling Stone website. It's fair enough to criticise an album, but that review was just utterly lazy and sounded as though the guy hadn't even bothered to listen to it properly.

And shame on Rolling Stone for publishing such a half-arsed piece of crap.

You would think that, for a magazine that has been around longer than dirt....would appreciate Alice...especially in 2011. But, I agree, the album did not get the "stars" I wanted....2.5 stars out of 5. Lindsey Buckingham got 3...and he does the same style album after album. It's just a different generation with different musical values, I guess.

The best thing I could do was to log in onto Rolling Stone.com and give my own review (5 stars)....that way, the "community" review is high. Maybe you could post your own review....and help Alice.

The other review I am looking out for is Blabbermouth.net....funny, their website is splattered with Alice Cooper W2MN...but they have no review as of today, 9-17-11.

From memory the RS review is 7 lines long and just stops...I'm not bothered about RS or their view of Alice..but in terms of review the content was little short of tragic(a phrase I borrow from a 70s review of Muds guitar playing live I think-obscure I know but fitting)..there have been a number of comments re the reviewer's rather limp attempt at reviewing...its amazing someone can get paid for that review..its always helpful if a critical review reasons why stars are knocked off.RS way past its sell by date..

I thought it was funny when they said the song with Ke$ha wasn't part of the concept. They either idn't listen or didn't pay attention

this ADD society today can't pay attention to an entire "concept album"...it takes too long. God forbid you actually "sit and listen" to an album for a whole 53 minutes.

I mean, this is what they said about "From The Inside" back in 1979...

The difference is the reviewer in 1978 at least showed they had listened to FTI and gave some reasoning-the latest one gives no reasoning and therefore should be ignored. Simple IMO

I think one of the very first comments on the review site says it all. seems like the reviewer didn't even listen to the complete second nightmare.

I expected more then a small paragraph. I guess you got to make room for the 90% ad content of there magazine.
