My only "complaint" thus far is that under the bed is a bonus track. the song is so incredibly good it deserves to be on the main album. someone reviewed it a while back and nailed it perfectly. the piano and quiet vocal evokes steven/years ago before it launches into a real fist pumping chorus. honestly, this would have to be my second favorite track on the album, bonus or not.

at first I thought 3 stars was bad until I saw it was 3 out of 4 stars...which is great.

I cannot agree strongly enough. I'd love to know why "Under The Bed" got relegated to 'bonus track' status, while something like "Disco Bloodbath Boogie Fever" made the album? The former track feels like part of the storyline, while the latter goes almost into a Weird Al Yankovic from of self parody. (Trite lyrics, the annoying chant background vocals and Alice rapping don't work for me). I get that "DBBF" is very much Alice's sense of humor in full effect - but to me, it's a joke that doesn't go over as well as the person telling it hoped it would.

If you wanna call the vocal style "rapping" on DBBF...
Would you call the vocal style "rapping" on Generation Landslide?

I see DBBF as a "Nightmare before Christmas"--Danny Elfman-esque style.
I see this song in a claymation cartoon...with ghouls and monsters dancing.

There is no comparison between generation landslide and disco bloodbath. The irony and satire of the song is that he is delivering a dance club fashioned song in a rap, because it is making fun of the scene. It would not be the same if it were not rapping. I understand that it was supposed to be satire and all out humor, but nonetheless, in my opinion, it's a ridiculous song which I skip over and never will listen to again because to me it doesn't do the job it was made to do.

I don't like your attitude. Who are you to call others silly?

Wouldn't you call it "funny" that someone doesn't find something "funny" when it is intended to be "funny"? that's what is silly....it's a circular argument.

I would just call it strange.

Now I will use your words.....

"Who are you to call others "strange?"

(oh, did you mean something else?).....see what I mean? Exactly.

I have seen many satirical comedies that were meant to be funny and poke fun at an issue, but the job was not well done so instead of being comical, it came out as boring juvenile schlock and was ineffective.

Same thing with comedians. They are on stage wanting to be funny, but some of them do not have the talent or delivery to be funny.

Instead of dealing with a movie, a writing, or a comedian though, in this case it is a song.

But, it is still "funny" that you don't find it "funny" when it was intended as "funny"....so I still laugh.

Intentions are meaningless. Many intentions are not successful and end in utter failure. Elected was a success. This song missed the mark.

What's the meaning of your intention when you say Disco Bloodbath Boogie Fever "missed the mark"?

...and wouldn't that be a contradiction if "Intentions are meaningless"?

Wow, a real intellectual type here, eh? Intentions are not the end result. The intent leads to either failure or success. The intention of the song was to satirically poke fun at the disco/dance/hip hop culture, but it is not successful.

So yes, intentions are meaningless. It is the end result of an intention that is judged. Some people find the song funny, but instead of making a great satirical song, he cheapened it by the delivery and the lazy lyrics...making it schlock.

This has been true of most things lately with Alice. He has had some superb songs, but most of the time as of late, the humor and lyrics has come off schlocky and forced instead of actually thought out and gripping as the early works.

"failure" , "success", "lazy", "schlock", "forced"....etc...are all subjective terms.

No... I'm not calling others strange. Funny can mean amusing, of course, but it can also mean strange, suspiciously odd, trickey, in your language.

Nor was I calling anyone "silly". See? We're on the same side.
