Does anyone remember a live performance of this that Alice did on a UK talk show during the early 90's? I was quite young but remember a four poster bed with flames coming out?

I think it was a UK TV show called "Aspel and Company", and at the end of the song he tossed a rose towards Catherine Zeta Jones, who was also a guest...and ( I think, again) so too was the Actor Jimmy Nail..).
I am also pretty sure the performance is on Youtube somewhere...

Blatently mimed though, I thought. Good interview though, I thought Aspel did really well.

I've always wondered what a performance like that sounds like to the audience? So it's basically the album track being played with everyone pretending to sing/play? What about the drums though?

I always understood the vocal on this was live, but everything else was on tape.

Yes.

Miming pads can be used. Also, if the drum - kit is not amplified and if the drummer doesn't hit them too hard, then the backing track can drown them out.

Most drummers will use pads to dampen the kit along with plastic imitation cymbals when miming on the likes of Top Of The Pops etc.

You win this weeks award for stating the bleeding obvious
Is there a need to be unnecessarily rude, or is that how you normally conduct yourself?
I'm not pointing out the mere fact it is mimed, but that it is rather
blatent - a perfectly valid comment I feel.
.......and it is "week's".

Another trick is to put tape around the edge of the cymbals.
