That`s true, but don`t you miss the days of getting a 3hr VHS tape of rare stuff you had never seen before?
I do. Stuff on YouTube just isn`t the same, whether its old or new.

This is an official release if anyone happens to be unaware of it.

thanks for posting.
it's a shame that on the Strange Case release Alice's voice was in such bad shape, while here he sounds really much better!

There are a few reasons that might possibly explain this. Filming a TV special can be a slower process so there can be long breaks between filming each song and there could have been a number of takes for each track.

Whereas on the Strange Case video, it may have been filmed during a long stint on the road (i haven't looked into it so this is just conjecture), so his voice could have been worn out by the time they filmed that particular show. It certainly sounds like it on the video.

Still a great show though.

It was filmed in San Diego on April 9, 1979, approximately 21 shows into a 25 date tour.
If I may put forward a slice of personal colostomy...

Definitely good suggestions, although audio from earlier in the tour shows the same kind of vocal strain.

I had this recorded for me a good few years ago (surprised that many of you have seen so little) and thought it was 'goofy', but interesting. Something about Alice that wasn't quite right then - and I don't mean alcohol or lack of it - his vocal was weird, he seemed 'hyper'.

very interesting comment(i.e hyper) Gunner..sometimes when people give up alcohol they discover their original high levels of energy and can be more aroused/even hyper in situations (e.g. performing) than they were when they were drinking alcohol which is of course a depressant...

Interesting response recoop, I had never thought of that, but of course it is a possible explanation.

This 'behaviour' seemed to extend into the early 80s.
I always thought, for example, on the 1981 Charlie Rose interview, Cooper was 'hyper' - very different to nowadays.

Sorry Si, only just seen this.

Yes, I do, I have a good few tapes like that. I often wonder about uploading some real rare stuff (some of my own recordings when we got a recorder in 1980!!), but wonder about the copyright.

you tube will take it off if there is copyright infringement I've put stuff recorded off TV on there that hasn't been on you tube before and have never had a problem.

Thanks so much for posting this Steven,

I remember watching it when it was on TV when I was 16 years old.

Great stuff...thanks again!
