Idiots in the Crowd
The only bad part of the Belfast gig was someone throwing a cup of beer at Alice. He missed (Alice even said as much between lyrics) but I and many others were hopping mad at the person who did it (I'm pretty sure he got ejected).
How do you think Alice feels about stuff like this? I ask this from the view of a performer and a reformed alcoholic. Surely the last thing he wants is the smell of beer on his outfit? I expect he's been clean long enough not for him to care though?
The perils of not being the headliner huh?

Perils of being a performer.
I remember a show in Portsmouth where things were being thrown. Idiots indeed.

Re: Idiots in the Crowd
Alice and Def Leppard are very different acts too so they won't always be universally liked by the crowd. You must really not like them (or be very drunk) th throw objects though!

Si, are you referring to an incident with a false leg?

Re: Idiots in the Crowd
Sadly i've been to far too many gigs in the UK where idiots have thrown stuff, no matter how good the band is.
I'm sure Alice has seen it all before though, there are always spoil-sports at every show.

Re: Idiots in the Crowd
I should add that beer was thrown at Joe Elliott as well.
Re: Idiots in the Crowd
I think Morrisey simply walked off and refused to play any more at a recent gig when someone threw something at him- served the idiot right and I hope the rest of the crowd took it out on him I am glad Alice finished the gig but you could hardly blame him if he walked off either!

Re: Idiots in the Crowd
Yeah, but Morrissey also walked off stage recently when he could smell someone in the crowd eating meat! I think Alice has a slightly higher tolerance threshold than that! Morrissey Walks Off Stage In Anti-Meat Protest
British rocker MORRISSEY halted his performance at California's Coachella music festival on Friday (17Apr09) to protest against members of the audience who were eating meat.
The former Smiths frontman, a staunch vegetarian, was disgusted by the smell of barbecued meat wafting over the crowd at the Indio, California event.
And halfway through his set, the star stopped mid-song and walked off stage, telling the audience, "I can smell burning flesh and I hope to God it's human."
A few minutes later the star returned and re-started his performance, adding, "The smell of burning animals is making me sick. I just couldn't bear it."
"Golly gee it's wrong to be so guilty..."

Re: Idiots in the Crowd
I heard about Paul Mc Cartney also having issues with people eating meat ... in his own roadcrew, who was (I don't know how true it is) kept on the tour to a vegetarian diet.... frankly I think that's too much with forcing people into your own conviction. I mean, I can understand he does not want to eat meat, but forcing people not to do so is dictatorship to me.
That said, I've had seen one bad case of concert-goer one day. It was about two years ago, at the last concert in France by the Stray Cats. Sometime during the gig, a guy from the front row thought it was cool to throw a knife on stage, and that knife just missed Brian Stezer by an inch. A furious Brian yelled "You don't throw knives at us !" and after they came back for the encore, Brian alone came on stage and repeated his words, and threw the knife angrily in the back of the stage. Gee as a french guy the culprit made me feel like we were assholes

Yeah, i thought it was pretty crazy too, but i suppose it shows that he's a man of strong conviction.RemarkablyInsincere wrote:I had to look that up. What a nut job. While Heaven Wept wrote:Yeah, but Morrissey also walked off stage recently when he could smell someone in the crowd eating meat!
Just wish he'd get his head out of his arse and get The Smiths back together.

Not really, he finished the show. While Heaven Wept wrote:i suppose it shows that he's a man of strong conviction.
For the record, I actually enjoy some Smiths music, but that doesn't make me think he's not a nut job.

Re: Idiots in the Crowd
Oh and there's another case I remember : in 2004, someone in the audience in Norway threw a lollipop on stage to David Bowie... the lollipop reached his eye and Bowie ended the gig with a"pirate look" ! Could have been serious but luckily for hilm it wasn't.

Daphne & Celeste @ Reading Festival was a particular favourite of mine. I think pretty much the whole festival got thrown at them.

Some concert-goers seem to have strange throwing-habits indeed...

Re: Idiots in the Crowd
I remember the Columbus 2006 Alice show where they let the crowd in about 3 hours before even the opener hit the stage.
A large portion of the crowd was thus *heavily* liqoured up by the time Alice hit. It was a rowdier crowd than normal all night and then right at the end of the encore a full beer cup came flying right by Alice's head.
Alice stopped... looked at the crowd with a surprised look... and made a b-line right off the stage.
Thankfully the last few times I've seen Alice there, they did not have that long a wait between doors and bands.

Yes. Didn't Alice stop singing and just stare at the person who threw something?
