Not to bee (that's a joke) too pedantic, but it's also spelled "beeline".

I've always had my doubts about Alice's version of the chicken incident for two reasons.

First, since it's been revealed by Alice himself that Bob Ezrin threw the chicken onstage the question is why would he do that if Alice didn't have a plan for reacting to it? Just having a chicken onstage isn't as dramatic as Alice's reaction of throwing it to the crowd. So I think that was planned.

Second, in the Rolling Stone Scrapbook which came out in the 70's a writer says he saw the chicken routine in Detroit and he thought it was repeated more than once. Why would the writer make this up?

It's been a great story and there's a good chance Alice was in on it.

When and where did he say this? The band hadn't even met the gentleman in question by the time of the Toronto show.

> So I think that was planned.

Everyone else thinks so, too.

> Why would the writer make this up?

Nobody said he did. That was established at another thread.

>It's been a great story and there's a good chance Alice was in on it.

That's a great piece of detection!

I didnt know that there wer SEVERAL "chicken incidents" besides the infamous Toronto one...
But in the early 70's interview on the "In their own words" cd's I was also surprised to listen to alice say that there were various chicken incidents... and he even tried to enumerate cities where happened in their performances...

I wouldnt be shocked if it turns out that it was planned and staged... Alice always knew how to make noise and get public attention!

I've told it on my blog. But at Sonisphere when I got by the fence the floor was so sticky you could get stuck to it if you stood for more than three seconds. Yuk.

I wasn't particularly happy to get one plastic glass of beer in the back during Alice's set. I didn't have a change of trousers for the next day. Fancy meeting the family reeking of beer :P
But mostly it splashed on my glasses and I wasted precious seconds trying to wipe them so I could see again :(

Though what really got me very angry was the idiot who flung his beer at Steve Hunter. Way to go stupid! Even if they didn't know that Steve couldn't see it coming, it's idiotic and not a very good idea to throw fluids at someone holding an electrical device.

In the end,I simply don't get why people would throw their money about? If you are that wealthy at least throw the actual money it might be useful to someone :) If just to get a get a beer after the show and actually drink it.

Many years ago, I went to see Eric Clapton, the only time I saw him. Same thing. Very high stage and I was pretty close to it. Idiot throws beer, Clapton retreats to the back of the stage and finishes the concert there. All the maybe 200 people who where a bit too close to the stage only got to hear the show and couldn't see a thing.

..It seems to be becoming a regular event at "Shows" these days, Unfortunately....I was at the Morrissey Liverpool gig where he got pelted with the bottle....as Much as I was Disappointed ( along with about 8,000 other fans )that the show was stopped, I can understand why he refused to carry on with the show....it could have been ANYTHING in that bottle...The Liverpool Arena security was very sloppy that night ...( nothing much has changed since....tut tut...).
Same thing happens at Arctic Monkeys shows....which is one reason I have no wish to see them "Live"( despite loving their music)....some of their ( so-called)fans just seem to be too "Rowdy/Coked-up/Drunk", and being a bit more than intent on causing Mayhem, to the detriment of others who just want to appreciate the Artist performing without threat of injury...
I used to DJ in local pubs, but have now "Retired" because of absolute drunken "Nutters" taking too much "Charlie", and threatening me with Violence/equipment destruction because I am not playing a "Tune" they want to hear "RIGHT NOW", and have had a few glasses of beer ( and cans) thrown at me, when my back was turned to Cue in a record....I agree with Dragonlady....I just wish they would throw me some money instead!!!
It's such a shame that these sort of Cretins are going to Alice gigs, ( or ANY gigs, for that matter..)as, as I have often said to friends, an Alice cooper "Crowd" is usually one of the friendliest you could ever be in...

When I went to see Rush in Nashville, I bought two bottles of water. The concession stand worker opened them in front of me and poured them into plastic cups, explaining that bottles were no longer allowed in the arena because people kept throwing them.

Here they confiscate any bottles you bring along. Of course you can buy drinks inside, so this looks like a plot to get more money. I get the idea of not wanting people to throw bottles but at most venues they also don't provide water for the people at the front. As a result more people end up fainting which is pretty stupid too. Not to mention dangerous.

I have all sorts of methods to sneak in small quantities of water so I don't faint in the middle of the concert

I was at this gig by a band called The Truth (a British rock band in the 80s) the singer guitarist Dennis Greaves (ex Nine Below Zero) walked onstage a roadie threw him his strat he caught it put it on launched into the first song and it all kicked off but soon stopped when he told in no uncertain terms what he would do to the trouble makers if they didn't behave themselves, it worked!
Lead guitar on Social Debris. Album on iTunes, Amazon & Spotify, title track featured on TV

It's not only what's being thrown at Alice:

I remember being at a show w/ Jaded, mmmmm, maybe at Turning Stone Casino? Correct me if I'm wrong, Jaded, I think it was my birthday...

We were "down in front", not "in front" they have weird but cool table seating there... This woman was in front of us, and it was a 'dry casino': so you could bring your own, but not buy an alcoholic drink...some 'tax' thing... Anyway, I remember watching her sit down ON THE FLOOR, take off her boot and do something to her foot (assuming "shot up"). Prior to that, she'd been drinking from a BOTTLE of CHEAP whiskey mixed w/ cokes she bought from the venue, dropped it/spilled it on a COACH BAG of a teenager, the FATHER of the teenager looked to ME, I pointed to HER, I think security took her out...so long ago, it's hard to recall.

Worse than ALL of that, the ENTIRE TIME, she kept yelling, "VINCENT!!! VINCENT!!!!"

Sometimes, the crowd can be a pain in the ass for all involved...

I hear ya there. I was at a show where the guy behind me was so obnoxious, drunk, inadvertently violent (not aiming to hit people, but his lack of balance and lack of self awareness led his fist pumping to end up building pulled back/down near people's heads), spilling beer all over, and grinding on me that they ended up having me fill out a 4th degree sexual assault form...which they decided to have me do after they felt they should get him for everything they could when he punched the police officer who was so rude as to come up to him and say "Excuse me...sir?"

This was also the same show where Jason Hook ended up standing on a monitor and watching the crowd to see better during most of a song. Calico later told me it was because there were punches being thrown, and blood being drawn, by a group fighting over Alice's cane. It ended up being broken in two (NOT the first time I've seen that.....another time, they needed six security guards to break it up), and then taken away from the fans entirely by security.

Certainly makes you wonder sometimes...

Yep: first Alice show I ever went to, The Boston Garden, at the time. I think it was Raise Your Fist and Yell. I was third row balcony with a date. The guy in front of me (second row balcony) was LOADED AND HIGH, PUNCHED the girl in front of him (first row balcony) in the back of the head for NO REASON. Her boyfriend CAUGHT her as she started to fall over the railing (VERY STEEP FALL, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN!!!) My date grabbed the puncher, FIVE college guys behind me, dragged me up into their row (fifth row or more..) so I wouldn't get hurt. Then security tried to arrest my date!!! The boyfriend holding the unconscious girl had to scream, "NO!!! He's holding the guy who DID IT!!!!"....

Amazing first experience...the show was awesome, the idiot in the crowd was otherwise...

I remember that Bella.. Yes, it was Turning stone.

I also remember being in the front with you in Poughkeepsie and you telling some unknown guy that these were our seats and not to invade our space or you would take him out. I remember turning around half way through the show and seeing a barrier behind us made up of the national guard. To this day, I'm not sure if they were there to protect us from that crazy Poughkeepsie crowd or to protect the crowd from us.. :rotfl:

Many years ago I went to see the Clash at the Glasgow Barrowlands and as soon as the band came on they were covered in a barrage of spit! Joe Strummer stopped the gig through the first song which was 'London calling'. He told them "we're not here to be spit on, next time you see someone spit take your fists out and punch them" and there wasn't another spit from anyone. I did nearly get crushed to death though.

All of this testifies that where theres rock, theres a crowd and in every crowd there will be idiots..strangely Alice gigs for me have been fairly harmonious affairs-maybe its the mock violence on stage satisfying the violent tendencies of the crowd(ok thats not convincing, although it was when Alice said something like this in the 70s)..mind you Alice 1982 Glasgow was my most raucous gig (no real trouble near me) and the most violent(outside) was Queen at Stirling University 1974..but even those compare meekly with scottish football in the 70s..

Two quotes from Alice himself:

We like reactions - a reaction is walking out on us, a reaction is throwing tomatoes at the stage, that's a healthy psychological reaction.

I appreciate an audience that reacts to the music, even if they jump on stage and try to beat us up. I think that's a fantastic reaction. I think that they're really hearing something.

The next show you go to why don't you try that and see how far you get.
