I agree.
Despite the production on FROM THE INSIDE (which I think now sounds a bit dated) I really like that album, just because I think there are so many great songs on there.
I admit however I have a hard time listening to NO MORE LOVE AT YOUR CONVENIENCE and YOU GOTTA DANCE.
And I must confess I hate ENOUGH´S ENOUGH and DYSLEXIA. Except for Alice´s lyrics, I think these songs sound like a mediocre 80´s new wave band on a bad day.
In my opinion Alice has made some of his best solo albums in the last decade and I absolutely love BRUTAL PLANET, which is my second favorite Alice solo album after WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE.

Re: Alice Loves Disco
Totally agree , it's almost like a sound effect , and certainly does not make the song "DISCO" ....It could be removed , and you'd hardly notice the difference .....It was the new thing at the time , with everyone emulating Stanley Clarke ........Funk bass maybe , to help drive the song along ...but Disco ? Never crossed my mind !A_MichaelUK wrote:>the slap-bass that runs all through the song from 15 seconds in ,
That's true, although it doesn't really change the beat or anything.

The best disco song I've heard is Staying Alive sung by Ozzy
All aboard! The Disco Train!
I Am Disco Man! hahaha

THAT WAS HILARIOUS! Got sick of hearing the same stuff over and over in the 70's, but like all musical genres, there are some jewels if you look for them.
And Alice has been "Kicked Around" a time or two.

Re: Alice Loves Disco
The slap bass was more of a characteristic of music in the late 1970s and early 1980s anyway.

Re: Alice Loves Disco
Many rock bands in the '70's made an attempt to incorporate Disco into a song or two. Some of the better ones that come to mind are The Kinks' Superman, McCartney's Goodnight Tonight, J. Geils' Come Back, & The Stones' Miss You.

Re: Alice Loves Disco
Are Pet Shop Boys Disco? I've always liked them but not sure if they would count as Disco or not because they can be quite dark and moody at times.

Ha..Desperado22- you sound as if you are in denial that you like disco-of course the Pet Shop Boys are Disco- Reckon everybody has tapped their feet to a disco beat- Re Alice my favorite reference to Disco is on the Strange Case video when he goes on about "I hate disco" then runs on about parents discoing at home- similar them picked up on "Dance Yourself to Death"-- Alice is dark and moody like the Pet Shop Boys but I hope he is not disco
You are an individual, just like everybody else.

Re: Alice Loves Disco
I think I must have a totally different idea of what disco is....as I have barely seen any proper disco mentioned on this thread. Pet Shop Boys??! They're a great pop band, but please don't make out that they're disco!
If you wanna hear good disco, go listen to anything by Chic.

Chic, Bee Gees, Tavares, Donna Summer...those are disco acts (who all also did other styles, of course, but they were the big disco artists). Disco was dead long before The Pet Shop Boys came around.

Alice covers "Another Brick in The Wall",
"Another Brick in The Wall" is inspired by Chic.
(Bob Ezrin was a fan of Chic.) Disco beat.

Alice used to refer to a lot of electronic music as "disco in disguise".

Re: Alice Loves Disco
lol nah I don't mind that I like a Disco group, I just always thought they didn't really sound like most of the Disco I have heard. I know Neil Tennant considers them to be Disco so I guess that's good enough for me.recoop wrote:Ha..Desperado22- you sound as if you are in denial that you like disco-of course the Pet Shop Boys are Disco- Reckon everybody has tapped their feet to a disco beat- Re Alice my favorite reference to Disco is on the Strange Case video when he goes on about "I hate disco" then runs on about parents discoing at home- similar them picked up on "Dance Yourself to Death"-- Alice is dark and moody like the Pet Shop Boys but I hope he is not disco
