Sick things.......

Post by evil syd » Thu Feb 10, 2011 5:33 am

It's one of my all time favorite songs. The nightmare returns dvd version, which I just watched, is what that song is all about, Alice singing it with his arms raised, and zombies rising from the earth. :alice:

Probably my least fave from the B$B album. Good song now, but it never really got a hold of me when I first heard it.
If I may put forward a slice of personal colostomy...

I got to agree with Shoesalesman. In comparison to the rest of BDB, Sick Things was (when I first heard it) weak. But the song grew as the album grew! The bombastic ending of the song is great!

I only love the guitar ending on sick things as I have said elsewhere..theres a noise in the song like chains being pulled up..I always used to think(when I was 15 in 1973) that this was the guillotine blade being hoisted up..any explanation of this screechy noise welcomed

Perhaps the chains of the zombies that Evil Syd was referring to :p?

I love the song! I always thought it would be great to re-enact the zombie worshippers thing with some of us sickthings, sort of go full circle.

I really dig "Sick Things".... but speaking about B$B, I always preferred the live versions of "I Love The Dead" over the studio version where the production always seemed a bit over the top and out of place on that album.

Then again... listening to it now... maybe that odd production serves to give it a certain creepiness.

There are no weak links on BDB's. I always thought Bob and Alice bought I Love The Dead from Wagner.
Now I think the three wrote it together and then they bought out Dick's share. Am I wrong or right on this? I seriously doubt the lyrics are Dick's.

Whether or not it's entirely accurate, I read that Dick was in need of some funds and initiated the sale of his part of I Love The Dead, not Alice initiating the purchase.

Billion dollar babies is a kind of strange album for me. And by that statement I am referring to my strange relationship with the album. I think the entire album works much better in a live situation. Billion dollar babies as a studio album never had a huge emotional impact on me. In fact it is one of my least played Alice Cooper albums. By the way I own all of his studio albums. It is not a bad album but despite its classic reputation it isn't a classic or even great album for me personally.

Sick things is a very interesting and theatrical song with a wicked attitude. But it is quite slow and I get a feeling it is going somewhere but never quite gets there. Guitar solo on it is a great one but still I feel the song being incomplete. My least favourite song on Billion dollar babies is Mary Ann, which I frankly cannot stand.

But like I said I enjoy many songs from Billion dollar babies in concerts. An Alice Cooper concert would feel very odd without Billion dollar babies and No more Mr. Nice Guy.

As a huge Frank Zappa fan I would compare BDB to Zappa's Hot rats album not stylistically but the way I feel about both albums. Both are from artists I love, both are hugely acclaimed classic albums and neither one does anything magical to me.

Although it's not my absolute favourite album, B$B will always be a fantastic record in my eyes as it was the one that introduced me to the band.

BdollarB is one of the best albums ever!
Every track on this album is classic
To be honest,I feel a person has no right being a cooper fan if he doesn't like it.......it's all there!
It's complete!
In fact, I think all the billion dollar baby albums just
have this high place in rock and roll history.

I know, music is all about different taste, but it's a true blue alice cooper album, it's part of his identity, it's a lot about what he is, darkness, humor, ballads, strange influences, it's all there, it's all there.

What if someone doesn't like "Welcome To My Nightmare"? That's a big part of his set, yet I know there are people that don't care for that album compared to the earlier albums.

I'm not one of those people, but I've seen those sentiments expressed.

Are you the arbiter of all things Alice Cooper?
