Oh man this is hard

Stand...only because of the rap portion...Alice's part is fine....

I love all of Alice's songs..I don't really have one that makes me cringe...

The son of Don Quijote wrote:I am by the way a bit suprised that Pitkin listed Inmates, even though I already knew he is not a fan of From the inside album. I think it is the highlight of that album and still for some reason rarely gets mentioned in the best song on From the inside threads. Lyrics on that song are absolutely brilliant, maybe Alice's best. I as a poet really appreciate them.

"We're the fragile elite they dragged off the street. I guess they just couldn't take us no more"

"All the innocent crime seemed alright at time. Not necessarily mad"

And many other parts of the song are excellent too.

When and If someone starts a thread on FTI being a classic I will gladly weigh in on why it soooooo bad.
And many other parts of the song are excellent too.

Interesting responses. That's the great thing about Alice. He has done a lot of diverse albums so there is always going to be some fun responses. For example, Brutal Planet is one of Alice's best albums ever in my opinion. Anyway:

1-You Gotta Dance
2-Model Citizen
3-I Love America (I know a lot of people like this song but I have never cared for it)
4-Disgraceland
5-Eat Some More-The only track I don't like on Brutal Planet

I'm really surprised Si hasn't mentioned his dislike for Ubangi Stomp yet. Unless he's changed his mind...

One song? Get off the fence Alice isn't reading this.

Okay, I should have said Deeper another four times then. :)

I am being honest by saying I have no hated or "worst" songs. It's not fair for me to dismiss anything Alice does by saying I hate it, because I certainly can't do better AND the words hate & worst seem to close the mind to possibly getting into it at a later date.

And speaking to Alice reading my posts, I respectfully don't care what he might think. It's my opinion, he can take it or leave it. As nice of a term as "least favorite" is I surely wouldn't shy away from being respectfully honest about Deeper and why I think it's not up to snuff to Alice's face if it ever came up. He deserves that much.

I think you could do better than " Deeper ". That song is musically horrible. It plods and plods and plods.

With reference to Son of Don Quijote maentioning the lyrics of "Inmates" being amongst Alice's best. Would they not be mainly be the work of Taupin?
Incidentally I agree it's a brilliant song and one of my favourites too.

I am mistaken Andy-I thought Taupin was credited on the track and thought he was a lyricist. Can you clarify or is the process of the individual songwriting contributions for individual tracks too complex?

Brian Nelson (July `95) on Taupin`s involvement:
Not a whole lot to this story. They had been friends for awhile and more importantly-drinking buddies. As Alice tells it, they had talked about working together for a long time but if anything, their drinking also slowed them down. So, when they had sobered up. the time was right. My understanding is that Bernie's contributions on the 'From The Inside' album were minimal, however.

Unless you where actually in the room with Cooper/Taupin/Wagner/Michael who knows. If Taupin's contribution was minimal it does seem odd he would get credit on every song.

He was and is. However, that doesn't mean that the song would "mainly be the work of Taupin", at all.

It can be very complicated. That's way there are so many court cases concerning song - writing credits.

Do you want to rephrase that?

>If Taupin's contribution was minimal it does seem odd he would get credit on every song.

It isn't "odd" at all. It's very common. Just because someone is credited, it doesn't mean they receive an equal share. They may do, but it shouldn't be assumed. Brian Nelson wrote one line in one song on "Brutal Planet", but by looking at the credits for it, you'd think he got an equal share.

I never said Taupin got an " equal " share. I said he was credited.

So why do you think it's strange he got a credit if his contribution was minimal?

Thanks for clarifying Andy-just to be clear I was referring to the lyrics of the track in my post rather than the song but from the responses to my post it seems that Taupin's contribution was less than I had originally thought.
