The murial gray interview was on 'the tube'. I remember her asking Alice if his worst nightmare was not selling any records.

It's from 1974 and is not generally available.

If this was on The Tube I probably saw it, but for the life of me I can`t recall it.
Out of curiosity, what was Alice`s reply ?

I don't think he gave a particularly substantial response, but in any case, I doubt it was meant as a serious question.

She asked what 'the nightmare returns' is, she asked if Alice was the nightmare or whether it was a recurring dream of not selling records - which I thought was quite funny. Alice replied by talking about how the nightmare show has returned withe better technology and that was the thinking behind it.

The Old Grey Whistle Test interview I have never seen in my life. I don't know why it isn't available (Andy may well). There is a tiny tiny clip of it on 'behind the music' I seem to recall, where he says ' he is going to go home and get drunk'.

I think the main reason is that back then, there were no (or very few) domestic video recorders, so it has never been circulated.

Yes, I remember her now. What a condescending little girl she was, seemed to think everything and everybody was beneath her and she was the 'star'. Hopeless, even had to look at her notes to read the name of the tour Alice was promoting. Hopefully she has now found her true vocation and is advising on bathroom tiles in the local B&Q store.

I think that's a fair comment. However, it does 'live in video land' (as Alice would say) somewhere and I am suprised it hasn't surfaced in its entirety in some format at some stage somewhere.

I think that Murial Gray is/was simply one of those 'left wing' types that thinks pop/rock music should be all about social politics, and so somebody just having fun with it would confuse her!??

Don't forget that during the 60's and 70's, the BBC would wipe tapes so that they could be used again

Because of this, there is a hell of a lot of classic material that is missing from the archives - many episodes of 'Doctor Who' no longer exists, classic 'Dad's Army' is not there, appearances by bands on 'Top of the Pops' etc

Don't be. It has not been broadcast in it's entirety since the original broadcast. Therefore, no - one has had the chance to record it.

That does not apply to the footage under discussion, as it does exist (a short piece was used in the original "Behind The Music" documentary).

Maybe it's only that particular excerpt that exists.

Again, with some of the missing Doctor Who stories, although the full episodes no longer exist, a few do have individual scenes remaining - i.e if a sequence was used in a 'Blue Peter' episode for example

That would be unlikely given that not so long ago, a great deal of footage was made available from that show.

The thing is; Alice Cooper's actual performance on the Old Grey Whistle Test (same show) in 1971 is available isn't it? So, what the difference exactly in the two scenarios? The latter one being an interview of course (which may actually be the crux of the matter) and at the time when the band was at the height of their fame. I mean, I don't think it is even wholly unreasonable to expect to see it show up an 'Old Grey Whistle Test' commerative DVD for example. I don't think the conclusion that 'people didn't have video recorder' totally satisfies me. Anyway, we don't see it and it seems likely we never will. I just recall my parents not allowing me to stay up and see it, which has bothered me to this day!?
