Good to see you again on Blu-ray !

Post by mestreech » Thu Aug 12, 2010 10:05 pm

Hi,

just got a message from HMV.JP that in september 2010 Good to see you again will be released on Blu-ray.

I hope they add some extra's or a quality improvement but I don't think so.

Hahaha I almost bought the DVD last night for 5 bucks, but in the age of blu-ray it's hard to justify investing in DVD any further.

You're right on that one. I'm very interested in the picture quality.

I'd really like to see the version with all the old film clips in between each live tune as a bonus. I, personally, liked that one. But I imagine, these days, it could be a red tape nightmare with all the estates of said clips original stars and producers.

Isn't that the "movie" version on the first release of GTSYA? The one where the Baron chases the Cooper gang? That's already out.

The one I'm talking about has a similar opener with "Lady is a Tramp". Then different opening credits with "Never Been Sold" playing as the stage is built. Then between the songs there are old black/white film clips from tons of movies & interview footage with Alice. The whole Baron Chase is not in this version at all.

I've had various VHS copies of that one, but the live footage never looked and sounded too good.

That was teh second version of the movie and yes, the rights issue was why it wasn`t included originally. Renfield originally wanted both versions on there (and the version with just music) but it juts wasn`t possible.

Anyone know if this is coded or not? I can only play region 'b' discs but more often than not, blu rays tend not to be region locked. Anyone know the coding on this HD release?

The Ladies and Gentlemen Blu-ray was not much of an improvement over the 4 Reels bootleg (supposedly a first generation copy). There are limitations with old films from that period because of the lighting levels used. They may be able to clean up some blemishes, but do not expect modern Blu-ray quality shot with excellent lighting and digital equipment. It won't be the quality of the TOD Blu-ray.

Also, my understanding is that GTSYA was shot on 16mm and then blown up to 35mm.

Here's a link to a review:

Looking forward to viewing this upgrade, fingers crossed that it is either a region friendly bd or that a region b version arrives fairly soon.

Figured I'd revive this thread rather than start a new... This blu-ray is on sale for $13.99 on Amazon, for anyone who hasn't already purchased it.

Nice may have to pick this up along with Suck. I would love to see alice do a full movie again. i think with the right script it could be quite good. This one was just silly fun. sorta of Monkeys inspired. Monster Dog remade in english. tell the story of Steven or along came a spider.

I've got the DVD

I thoroughly enjoyed Suck beyond the novelty of being a movie Alice is in. Just a good, fun, rock horror comedy. It is a joy to revisit.
