I don't know if this has been posted here or on the news page before, if so, then my apologies.

There is a series with the above title starting this Saturday, 9.40 pm BBC2 about Rock Bands. Anyway, at the end of the trailer, currently being shown, is a cartoon picture of Alice, so looks a decent chance there will be some AC related content!

Have set it on series link.

Was ok, Alice was on, obviously, but no sign of Axl, unless i missed that bit.

How can you have a programme about lead singers and miss Axl?

I enjoyed it but I was hoping they might show some of the footage shot at the Wolverhampton show which I believe we were told was for some BBC thing around May time? Anybody heard owt else on this, whether it's gonna appear in summat else or if they scrapped it for whatever reason?

Alice talking about the props was cool though.

I guess they shoot lots more than they air - plenty of great footage must get dropped when editing it together.

(reminds me of that saying - 'kill your children').

Was wondering where the pre-gig tour of the props was from, thanks for answering that, Gorey lol.

BTTW the cartoon Coop was used for a while on the bbc.co.uk frontpage as an ad for the show.

On the whole it was great, liked the animations and some great thoughts into what makes a good lead singer. There was a point however where they they seemed to suggest that Alice took a load of inspiration from Arthur Brown, which is an easy thing to assume on lack of research.

>was hoping they might show some of the footage shot at the Wolverhampton show

I can't remember if they taped any of the performance.

>which I believe we were told was for some BBC thing

That is the programme under discussion.

I remember there being a camera man through the first four songs so just wondered if it was definitely for this show and they didn't use it for whatever reason or if it would appear in summat else on the BBC.

Yeah I guess you're right about editing Tim.

I genuinely don't think I remember, but you could be right.

The one good thing about last nights finale for me was the large piece of art work of Alice behind the panel...was in view pretty constantly...think freddie mercury ended up as singer chosen but interesting that the 3 most prominent pieces of art work in background related to Alice, Daltry and Axl (no mention of bowie-he was more rock than morrissey shirley ( don't call me shirley)..none of them had a sniff..good old bbc/surpised Morrissey wasnt chosen to front a rock band..at one point they seemed to be showing pop bands from the eighties ha...when you get used to these progs they can be funny..one or two good tribute bands playin especially led zep tribute

As they were discussing who the best frontman could be, I was hoping they'd turn around to find the answer had been closer than they imagined.

Nah, It's a silly battle.. but I don't think any of it was intended to find the answer to the question (which is impossible to get to the bottom of in the first place). Just a fun platform for lively debate, jokes, great clips and quality live music for a few hours.

However, I was disappointed when Cooper was missed from the get go & didn't make it to the shortlist for votes for frontman. Ironically they used his image with more significance than the others in a number of places - in the foreground of the image to represent the show on iPlayer, on the homepage of the bbc website and as recoop mentioned, a huge cutout behind the panel which had plenty of airtime (probably moreso than the other rock toons). So, whilst he wasn't totally missed out I was expecting him to have more prominence in the whole series given the amount of faith they have in using his image to sell the show.

But hey, it's been a great watch over the weeks and nice to see something that contrasts well with the 'make it or break it, we'll forget you soon enough anyway' thing of Britains got Talent.

In all honesty I didn`t expect Alcie to be in the running. While *we* know he is the best out there, I think what they were really looking for was more the most Iconic person in each role. The one who embodied the "Rock God" type of thing. In which case this really isn`t Alice as there is far more to him then just that. Robert Plant or Freddie Mercury are worlds apart in their approches, but I can see why they were up there. Cobain was the odd choice there. Maybe to appeal to the youner demographic? But when you think about it I suppose he does represent a third approach to being a frontman, different from the other two.

I was suprised Neil Peart wasn`t mentioned for Drummer. Love or Hate Rush the guy is incredible. But again, maybe not the iconic view of a rock drummer in the way the three chosen are.

Also surprised Floyd and the Stones didn`t even come into it. While not the best musicians, Floyd are universally loved as a band across countless subgroups of fans. Perhaps they just aren`t "rock and roll" haha... but the Stones certainly are, more so then the Beatles.

I agree it was basically just a bit of fun, and really proved nothing, but I thought it was great that on a programme about rock, they actually did pretty much only have rock artists up for voting. I half expected the vote to be littered with indie and pop artists.
