Booklet Download for Keepin' Halloween Alive

Post by Maurice » Sat Oct 03, 2009 8:24 pm

I'm no I.T. whizz - I get by.

I got the iTunes music sorted, (no hay problema) and even printed off a circular adhesive backed label, by using the circular design on the inside sleeve of the booklet and it looks neat applied to the cd (even tho' I say so myself!, especially so in an orange perspex back single cd case.

But, having printed off the booklet in 'Booklet' mode, on some quality photo paper and attached both images back-to-back, the booklet is 'complete' and looks great! I was surprised tho', that the booklet does not print out to fit in a cd case?

It comes out a tad bigger widthways, and a tad shallow in height for the front of a cd jewel case.

Is it me?

(The colours are great tho' and a good quality print too.)

Haven't tried that. I should test this as I can actually print directly on cd's with my printer.

I've had similar problems with others. I've found it depends somewhat on my printer settings. Go to your printer settings (depending on the type of printer) and choose paper (mine has multiple and cd case), choose the one that looks 'right' and try it on basic paper first. My printer will fit the artwork to the size automatically....

I've done this for the former TKD school promo CD's and cases etc. For personal Alice stuff, I just burn to disc and enjoy...just my preference.

Well, have patience with it DT.

The solution that I have now found works best for me is to print out on two sheets the artwork in 'Booklet' format.

I then scan the two pieces and save to a cd labelling programme - I use Arcsoft - which will then automatically convert to whichever cd style of booklet I need, and size them to fit automatically.

I then use Scotch spray adhesive to join the front and back pieces and trim with a guillotine (which somehow seems wholly appropriate!).

The PDF download format from iTunes does not appear to allow me to make changes to my printer mode beyond paper size or booklet format.

Haven't times changed? A few years go we were complaining that one can't really see the artwork well on CD's, that you don't get the 'gatefold', don't get the novelty gifts etc. Now you have to make your own CD and cover!!!!

Yes! Actually the irony here is that you can print off to whatever size you wish - subject to your own printer constraints - which means us older folks can print to a size we can read without specs on!!!, but (as you see) it is very much a DIY affair.

Mind you, I really enjoy this kind of thing (sad I know), and getting good results from it usually takes a few attempts.

Actually, from what I know of you Maurice, I CAN imagine YOU enjoying DIY album covers.......and being pretty damn good at it too! Also, would it not give you opportunity to write your own liner notes?? ;) :alice:

You've given me an idea and the urge to make my own 'gatefold' now!  :8):
