Hello Hooray is probably the best cover version ever recorded by anyone, a masterpiece the only cover version that springs to mind in the same league is Hendrix version of Dylan's All Along The Watchtower, I see these not really as covers but as interpretations of songs that became something so much greater.

Hated Alice's version of Because not a patch on the Beatles original

Of course... however, let's mention that "God Gave Rock and Roll To You II" blows away the original by Argent.

As does Kiss' version of the Rolling Stones' "2000 Man".

And Van Halen's "You Really Got Me" is better than the original.... heck, The Kinks' Ray Davies himself is quoted as saying this and he wrote the song.

There's a long line of covers that are viewed as better than the original versions. In addition, many songs you probably think are originals, were, in fact, covers.

Take "Escape" for example. A reworking, but still essentially a cover.

Heres another cover - "Blinded By The Light" Manfred Mann. Much much better than the original written and done by Bruce Springsteen

Kiss didn't blow away the Argent original! all they did was give it an over the top metal production and still came up short.
Let me make it clear I do not blame the genius of Bob Ezrin for this, just who he was working with I hate Kiss they are not fit to clean Alice's shoes!

Russ Ballard the Argent frontman as well as having a great voice and a good guitar player is a really great songwriter who has written for many, such as Colin Blunstone 'I don't believe in miracles' and Rainbow's 'Since You Been Gone'.

A great cover does something different and improves the original and steven15322 cites an example up there with Hello Hooray, the awesome Manfred Manns Earthband who really did blow away the original version of 'Blinded By The Light' that Springsteen wrote with Patti Smith.

I personally agree that KISS's version is better than the Argent version...if for no other reason than the modified lyrics aren't quite as embarrassing. ;)

alice and kiss can, have, and always will co-exist! love both camps, and regarding "GGRR2U",it has a soft place in my heart since it's the last track the late eric carr participated in (albeit very little)

I have a very simple request for the new album. Bring back the church pipe organ sound. This signature sound of early ACG tracks such as Hallowed Be My Name, Second Coming and Black JuJu has been sorely missing in alot of his latest albums. In my opinion it adds a sorrowful and creepy factor that cannot be equaled by other types of instruments. Teddy Zizag would fill the slot nicely.

And I also agree that production and writing on the last album was subpar.

Right, but he quickly redeemed himself with the classic masterpiece "Keepin' Halloween Alive 365."

Organ is criminally underused these days, so I agree completely that if Alice was to bring it back, it would add something truly unique to the sound and make it stand out even further from music of this era.

Yep, agreed. Not a backward step IMO, just a good idea.

that's a different take than what alicehunter said. he wants alice to bring back the sound specifically because it would make songs sound like the older ones. that is going backwards.

No Matt, I said it was a signature sound of early ACG songs and that I liked that sound. I'm not saying go backwards in his career, you said that. Why would using an instrument that he used successfully in the past for some great songs be going backward? That is like saying he shouldn't use a harmonica because he used that in the past as well.

Personally, I like the creepy and somewhat melancholy? sound of a pipe organ and I think that it can be successfully used in the future to great effect. To me pipe organs also invokes funeral imagery that adds a certain darkness to songs.

Yes nothing wrong with using a pipe organ as it would bring a certain sound that could work wonderfully. I would love for Alice to do a creepy dark type album with organ etc. You know kinda like the music that goes along with the old horror movies from the 30s and 40s ..of course with a modern type sound also guitar drums bass etc. Of course this rich production would take longer than the usual 2 month or less deal...I wouldn't mind Alice taking his time on the next one even if it took several months to a year..Just as long as it isn't rushed sounding and that it is well thought out.
