May I make a suggestion? It's not necessary to have the exact same pics that were used in the original fanzines as it is really the text that is important, especially if it is going to be so difficult to obtain the original photographs. Why not just use other great pictures from the 70s, like the Alice magazine covers of New Musical Express, Melody Maker, Sounds, Record Mirror, Disc, etc.?

I'll see what I can do. I agree they don`t always have to be the same pics, and maybe not even ALL the pics, as the formatting will be different anyway.

The history detailed on this site is one of the things that truly makes this site great (in addition to the community) and a terrific resource for the fans. I have learned so much from the information located here. The fanzines would be a perfect addition documenting some of the history of the fanbase... especially for those of us who weren't around at the time.

I really like Si's idea of Andy writing a forward to explain the history behind his fanzines and putting them in the proper perspective.

The period after 1977 (I think) never got covered (except for the 1986 UK tour).

But my choice of images was brilliant!

Which is why I think putting them online is just duplication. I think this site is better (different obviously, but better).

The best sites not only inform, but they serve as historical archives. I really think it's cool not only to learn about the band, but have insight into what things were like during a certain time frame. Since I came on board in the late 80s, I don't have the perspective of certain things that you old timers do.

Maybe someday we can even stuff you and include you here.

No. Let's talk about me only.
Haha, quality! That actually made me laugh out loud!

I also would love to see these reproduced online somehow. I think it's fascinating to see how Alice's music was perceived at the time of it's release, for example i'd love to know what the reaction to Flush The Fashion was at the time.

Andy and Si both have my total respect, sterling work as always chaps.

Not sure I went into any of that in particular detail - I might have done. For an absolute wealth of articles, go to Lee Davey's site (link at the "Links" page).

Apologies - the link is on the list on the left - hand side ("Press Archive").

Andy mentions errors and stuff, but if you compare the time they came out and the quality of computer scanning and internet information sharing we had back then (ahem...NOT!) it would be like seeing an evolution of sorts. Andy would just love this, but silent films may be inferior to CGI of today, but it had to start somewhere, right? ;)

I only had the official newsletters that came out between Constrictor and Raise Your Fist And Yell. Would be nice to see something from earlier times.

This all sounds very interesting. I would love to see it.

I would love to see it as well; with all due respect, primitive is no excuse :-).....

I love stuff like that. If I run across an old local paper, I read it front to back. I love the old design, how the stories were written, and the general history of it.

I vote for archiving, as I totally understand the work that was put into the production of such a fanzine. Anything pre-computer should be archived!!

It will be done. Just give me the chance to clean it up and add some pics etc. It's quite a large job (although the worst is already done) so just be patient.

I remember an interesting letter of appology that was printed detailing a mini riot at a movie showing of " We've Come For Your Daughters " in Liverpool. I doubt many people here have seen the whole movie.

The fanzine was excellent. If it had a fault it was the lay out. Andy's skills in that dept did not match the text.

You definitely were not. If you were buying "Sounds", then I don't understand how you missed out on "New Musical Express", "Disc", "Melody Maker and "Record Mirror".

Add to that " Jackie " and a host of other teen girl mags.
I would have the girls at school clip all the Alice articles for me. Alice was also in The Sun, News of the World and Titbits ( how's that for obscurity ). I remember stealing an Alice poster on a school trip to France that came from a magazine called Best. Alice was everywhere between 72-74.

That came from, I think.

In my defence, it was put together with scissors and glue.

Didn't you go all 'High Tech' shortly after that when you started using scalpel and adhesive!
