Alice say's "You gotta play the hit's", but....

Post by TonyfromNH » Mon Jul 20, 2009 1:32 pm

I don't necessarily agree.

I would say that if you are looking to appease the casual fan, absolutely. If you were to drop "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and add, let's say, "Scarlet and Sheba"...that casual fan has one less (of his already few) songs to sing along with or at least recognize.

Speaking for myself, as a hardcore fan that "lives" Alice, I wouldn't be upset if he where to drop a few of the bigger hits for some of the more obscure stuff that I love.

Am I the only one that shares this sentiment?

KISS recently let the fans vote to choose the route (cities) of the upcoming tour. How great would it be to have Alice do a similar, "you pick it, we play it" kind of thing.

(I posted this by mistake in the "off topic" section..sorry

I agree.
Alice has played so many shows the last years that almost everybody had the oppertunity to see him.

The problem is in my opinion the setlist. There is VERY little variation. Sometimes he changes one or two songs but mostly he plays on safe.

I hope his new show will contain a lot (not only 2 or 3) but really a lot new songs.
He could do a greatest hits medley as encore.

He has so many unheard great songs to perform.

You will be very lucky if he does 4 from the new album. There is a lot of stuff that should be retired.

well we know he is going to do vengeance is mine, feminine side, and killed by love probably since he said he is suppose to bringing the video to life onstage so one would assume he would do those...he did 7 songs of the 11 songs off of Brutal Planet hopefully he will do at least 6 songs from ACAS...

not true. you have to look at it from a tour-to-tour perspective. not year-to-year.

and how many in the audience would LOVE to hear those songs? maybe 5%???? not a good business move.

Exactly. I think the diehard fans who post and communicate with other diehard fans forget that most of the audience know mainly only the hits and the songs from the best-selling albums. It would be a big mistake for Alice to tailor his shows to only 5% or even 10% of the audience. And some of you may forget that artists (like David Bowie, for example) have tried doing the shows with more obscure songs and the concept was a bust.

Well he could definitely drop "Lost In America" and put an obscure song such as "Fresh Blood" in place of it. After all it's been played to death allready and how many casual fans know that song anyway? It's not like it was a big hit or anything.

lia was released as a single, in video format and was on beavis and butthead. and it usually gets a very good reaction from the crowd. can't say any of that about fresh blood.

Yeah and "You And Me" was a huge hit but does he ever play it? I'm sure many casual fans know that one over LIA.

What I am saying is yes you gotta please the casual fan but you can also please the diehards there are plenty of hits he can do and make the casual fan happy and enough room to include a couple of obscure songs.

bottom line is - this is a business and it's about making money. who generates more revenue - casual fans or die hard fans? easy answer. i think alice has given the die hard fans many surprises over the years, so let's not get greedy. he has ALWAYS had the correct amount of songs that appease to both types of audience members. there is not one single major tour where he has not play some obscure or rare song.

his main audience has seen wayne's world, not sgt. pepper. and i do not agree that only die hard fans will be left in the end. that is simply not correct.

You can't say say much about Fresh Blood either way because he's never tried it! L.I.A. isn't exactly a make or break song here, let's be honest.

correct. and now is clearly not the time to experiment. maybe 16 years ago??????

no, but it was released as a single, from an album that did manage to create a buzz. and, as i said previously, it does go over well with a live crowd.

the two songs are just not in the same league as each other , in any aspect.

sure. you can. although he is also not correct. nothing personal. it's just about facts.
steven15322 wrote: Anyway I kinda thought maybe "Fresh Blood" might fit into the current tour theme.
well, considering you guys don't really know the whole theme yet.... your statement is a little inaccurate. but i know what you're trying to get at.

again, these two songs are so different from each other, as well as their histories, it's hard to compare. you and me vs only women bleed would be a more fair comparison.
