John Tatum Interview

Post by Si » Wed Jan 21, 2009 1:53 pm

Did anyone bother to read the John Tatum Interview that went up a few days ago? I thought it was really interesting and had all sorts of cool snippets about the formation of the band.

I read it when I saw it on the news page. It was cool to hear about the early days from his perspective and learn a bit more about this time period. I was surprised someone else didn't start a thread about it already, haven't had much time to post recently cos I've been that bogged down with coursework or I might have started one.

I read it. It was very nice of him to do that for us. I had no idea Jack Curtis was that involved. Thanks Si.

Right! We knew of course he helped them out a lot, and got them a record releease, but to hear it went so much further then that was very interesting.

I did indeed read it, but a work trip to NYC took me away before I could post. Thanks for taking the time Si (though I'm sure it was a pleasure for you!). I found it exceptionally interesting to hear John's point of view and his memories of the time. Hats off to you once again for exceeding the expectations of an unoffical fan group for providing us with this kind of cool stuffage(speaking for myself on that one but I'm fairly sure that others out there would agree)!

Yes I read it. All the "Vince" references made it worthy for me

I certainly did Si, very good it was too.

Put us straight on the `only Glen could play ` belief as well.
I was a bit surprised that he wasn`t close to Alice and Dennis, I always assumed that Dennis was close to everyone. He just comes across as that sort of guy, never mind, I don`t suppose you can get on with everyone all the time.

Well done Si for that.

I can't imagine the regretful "eat your heart out" feeling that must have shot through him in the early 70's.
Et tu, Pete Best?

Maybe, but I don`t think that came across too much in the interview though.
I would imagine everyone in that position must think " if only " once in a while.

Thanks Si! It was very cool to get his take and memories on his time with the band.

All the interviews on this site, with the various past and current members have been informative and good reading. Just had to throw it out there, this site is wicked!

When's John Speer's turn?

I've never really had much contact with John Speer, although I think I did get an email at one point a very long time ago.
Most of the interviews come from me having some contact with the subject already and suggesting it. Others, such as present band members etc are a little more proactively initiated, and some obviously come to me via other sources who allow me to post them.

I would be interested to hear/read what Fred Mandel and Davey Johnson had to say about working with Alice - especially writing 'Flush The Fashion' <- Great LP!!

We tried to get Davey Jhnstone but he doesn`t like doing interviews so it didn't happen.

Fred Mandel is possible maybe. Never tried to track him down.
