He's actually referring to songs like "Only Women Bleed" and "I Never Cry" (I'm referring to an interview from somewhere). This song is about the "guy" who wrote all of those sad songs. I think he's talking more about the idea that the real person inside came out on those and he let down his guard a bit.Coopenstein wrote:My tape recorder, it must be lyin'
'Cause this I just can't believe
I hear a voice that's cryin', that's not me
The wheel goes round, I hear a sound
It's comin' out all wrong
And I swear to you I never wrote that song
I been livin' ..my own shell so long
The only place I ever feel at home
And oh, that music, I hate those lyrics
It stayed inside me so long
And I swear to you I never wrote that song
Well, is this a downer, or what!?!?!?
These lines make me feel like Alice hated and almost denied his own (old) songs and stage persona, (which made him famous), and maybe even himself, since he was in such bad shape around this time... Definately one of my least favorite tracks with Alice - ever!
Cringe-worthy Alice lyrics...

I have to say that Constrictor is lacking in the lyric department on the whole.
I certainly agree that Dada has some impressive lyrical content; possibly because Alice appeared (to me) to be striving hard for a 'direction' at the time? I don't recall (right now) any specific direction of that 'post punk' era - (although someone may well remind me!). I do recall, however, an interview with Bob Greene where Alice suggests the possibility of using a 'Western' themed concept (like The Magnificent Seven) for his next album.
But by the time Constrictor appeared we were into the 'hair, metal, sex' niche that continued on through Trash and culminated (with Alice) on Hey Stoopid. So, (the way I see it), the lyrics on Constrictor were (comparatively) of a more 'disposable' nature, but for all the 'right' reasons, i.e. they were entirely 'fit for purpose'.
When life becomes more real than children's games
Or we've become too old to play them
My God.
Or we've become too old to play them
My God.

As the late great Vincent Price would say they are "wonderfully demented thoroughly diabolical"
I love the dead before they're cold
Their blueing flesh for me to hold
Cadaver eyes upon me see... nothing
I love the dead before they rise
No farewells, no goodbyes
I never even knew your now rotting face
While friends and lovers mourn your silly grave
I have other uses for you Darling
This is poetry for a necrophiliac!

I like these lyrics.Feezle-Nuts wrote:I got a radical place

It's my sanctuary
It's the castle of doom
I'm the king of my room
Just a Quasimodo

Got my mess on the floor
Got my lock on my door
If I may put forward a slice of personal colostomy...

Oh no - Scarlet and Sheba is a great song! I wish Alice would open a show with that one some day! For me the worst is 'Cause we're no baloney, homosapiens, We ain't phoney Oh we're no baloney homsapiens and Thrill My Gorilla is pretty bad all the way through! They've already been quoted though.

There have always been two sides to Alice lyrics. The ACG lyrics and Alice solo lyrics. The ACG lyrics were inspired and impeccable. The solo Alice lyrics areDraugen wrote:

Does this even make any sense? Is there something lost to people who don't have English as first language?

I like these lyrics. Maybe the "sexier" lyrics are just more appealing to the females....see discussion on Trash thread.DaveJay wrote:....Hi all....I cannot believe that this thread has got to 3 pages, without a mention of "Feed my Frankenstein"!!!....surely the worst lyrics ever commited to paper!!!...." A GREAT record but that is show-biz-theatrical-camp all the way. I can hardly watch the TV special its just so dated lyrically as well as visually
