Dale hasn't even started working on the new version yet and doesn't expect it to be out until next year. It's listed on Amazon because it was listed in a forthcoming list by the publisher.
If you want a link to pre-order here you go:

US: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... hingsuk-20

hywel, I guess some new material is going to be added. Dale Sherman contacted Janice a few months ago concerning some stuff from the Memorail Weekends for Glen. He said he was going to try and contact Dennis, Neal, and Michael as well. Not sure if the book will be a total revision or whether "stuff" we'll just be added on. He did mention adding concert dates. (wonder were he could go to find that info?)

thanks for the help. i have the original one like so many of us.

i think its good in relation to timelines etc.
i have been told there have been a few inacuracies but what the hell. i love the book.

jeez think of the bootleg section, or recorded shows section, it would be huge.

As GNDM implied, most of the information came from this site (I can't remember if the book acknowledges that).

I'm in contact with Dale and as I say, he hasn't actually started working on the updates yet. I know he wants to correct the errors in the original book, and add more material to bring it more up to date.
Dale had my blessing to use the info from this site in his original book, and again has it for this update (yes, he did ask).
Must admit when he copied a whole paragraph from STUK, including a spelling typo I'd made, I was amused :)

 That's pretty funny!

Hmmmm, I don't have this book yet. Maybe I'll wait 'til the new version comes out before I buy. 'Cuz at some point, I DO need a copy!

Yeah I met Dale last year at a horror convention in Louisville, Ky (both our town). He autographed my book and then I found out that he is good friends with one of the people I work with at the Main Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library. Its a small world...

Is this the same Illustrated Guide that was selling for big $$$ on the Internet not long ago?

Yes, but this version will be updated.
While the original version is now going for high amounts on ebay etc, it's only because it's been out of print for a while.

The ones currently on eBay are "Buy It Now" items and I don't think they're realistically priced.

The following is more reasonable:

Have Amazon confused the forthcoming edition with the one already in existence? I only ask because I pre-ordered the new one via Si's link above back in November and today received the following from Amazon:

"We're still trying to obtain the following item[s] you ordered on 16 November 2008, 17:55 MET.

Dale Sherman "Illustrated Collector's Guide to Alice Cooper"
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1894959930

Still want it? We'll keep on trying."

As the new version hasn't come out yet (so far as I'm aware) I'm wondering if 'zon don't know this? I'm sure it won't be long now until THEY cancel the order on the grounds that they "can't get" the book (which I've had happen before).

I have that book. While it is not entirely accurate, it is a good read and has some good information in it.

Back in 2001 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, I picked up mine at Coles Bookstore for a little over $20... and that's Canadian funds. And yeah, some selling sites now have it at inflated prices, for reasons already stated above.
