Thoughts on Beasto Blanco

Post by Mr. Misdemeanor » Sat Sep 09, 2023 6:44 pm

I've been listening to some of their music over the last couple of days. Some ok stuff. Sometimes a little too derivative of Rob Zombie, but on the other hand Rob really hasn't done much that I liked in the last 15 years so it's nice to hear something in that vein.

Live Fast Die Loud (2013)

Their first album is probably the weakest, imo. I like "Il Nostro Spirito/Beasto Blanco" and "Breakdown"

Beasto Blanco (2016)

I think this is their strongest album so far. Favorite tracks: Death Rattle, Grind, Blind Drive, and Buried Angels.

We Are (2019)

Favorite tracks are Solitary Rave (Calico's best vocal performance), The Seeker, Half-Life, Ready to Go.

One thing that I think would help the band tremendously is to get more out of the lead guitarist. There just isn't a lot to be impressed with, especially on those first two records.

If you like Rob Zombie's early solo efforts you will probably find some things that you like on these albums.

I like them a lot. Personally I think their first was the best. They are a very Rob Zombie sounding band. I look forward to anything they put out.

One of my favorite bands in recent years. I love all three albums. Yes there is somewhat of a Rob Zombie vibe in a lot of the songs and presentation but there is also shades of the Ramones and Motorhead in there as well and also some modern sounds as well. They signed a new deal a while back and a new album will be out next year.

I think they're fantastic. Both studio and live, as Si said. They are the first band to be added to my "favorite bands" list since I discovered Jackyl in 1992. Yes, that was quite a dry spell. (Jet would have made the list, but their second album was so putrid that it tainted their first album for me.)

I know animated gifs are passé these days, but I still like making them. Here are three of Calico from the Solitary Rave video:

Thanks. It was a cool looking video, so it made it pretty easy to grab a few interesting snippets out of it.
