To be honest I never thought I would see the day again Alice got a to a decent position in the charts, 4 in the UK album charts is fantastic.

Well the charting in N. America are disappointing, considering AC tours consistently.
In Rome Italy, Social Debris is in rotation in at least 2 rock radio stations, and also Rock n Roll was promoted fairly well. Our Love will change the world, instead, was played for 1 week only.

best positions since Hey Stoopid?

This is a sign of the times though - bands of Alice's era still sell a fairly steady amount of albums, while younger acts sell less, as their core audience opt for streaming.

So this usually means classic bands chart fairly high in the first week, as most fans are waiting for the album and buys it in the first week.

Still nice to have a good chart position though!

How is it the best selling album of last week yet debuts in the 40's? Legitimate question. Do they tally streaming/YouTube figures and so forth which somehow factor in how they chart.
Conversely does its number 1 in germany and number 3 in australia and number 4 in the UK simply meant they sold the most product without influence of all this other convoluted stuff that seems to be the modern day billboard 200 way of doing things

I should say that 6 top 10 finishes in some good markets is a great result, but the us charts a little strange.

Yes, that's exactly what they do./ The "top 200 albums" is NOT the top selling albums, it's sales plus streams/youtube and even radio plays.

Each territory counts their charts in slightly different ways I think. The UK for example also includes streaming (both free and paid). Not sure about any others.

That is why we should look for ACTUAL sales charts rather then the rigged ones. And on that basis I think he got #1 in both the UK and USA. Certainly the UK chart company mentioned mid week that it was the top *selling* album, despite at the time listing it at #2 (it ended up at #4).

The whole thing is a farce from the point of view of us old timers.. The top selling album should be #1. Not the record streamed for free on youtube/spotify etc. It's daft.

In the UK:

#3 on the physical album chart - https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/p ... ums-chart/
#3 on the sales chart - https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/a ... les-chart/ (I'm assuming this is CD/vinyl/digital combined)
#6 on the vinyl chart - https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/v ... ums-chart/
#8 on the downloads chart - https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/a ... ads-chart/

Plummets down from #4 to #52 on UK chart. Still, better than Maximo Park who were at #2 last week - they've fallen out of the Top 100 altogether!

Late entry for debut position: #3 Austria.

So happy it charted better than W2MN and Paranormal mostly everywhere, although in a further scaled-down market...I am happy because the record is so much better

13,000 physical sales in the US gets a no1, changed days indeed.

People just don’t consume music like they used to, unfortunately, a pretty clear justification of why the compilation of the charts had to change or risk being almost totally redundant

With the ability to copy digitally changed everything! Way's around "masking" were discovered & shared.
Physical sales should be multiplied by at least X10! Streaming & Downloads will be the Charts for the future.

How about x100 or x1000? Here is a glimpse at part of the compilation process for the UK Album charts. Mindblowing...

"Standard Chart Ratios (SCR)
New releases will have a streaming to sales ratio of 100:1 (in the case of premium streams) or 600:1 (in the case of ad funded streams) applied.

Example:
A release picks up 15,000 streams this week. 9,000 of those streams are premium and 6,000 are ad funded. The release will have a total of 100 chart sales (90 premium, 10 ad funded).

Accelerated Chart Ratios (ACR)
Using only SCR to calculate the chart meant that a number of singles would stay in the charts for months following release with new releases finding it difficult to impact upon the charts. In order to keep the chart fresh, Accelerated Chart Ratios were introduced.

After 3 consecutive weeks of decline a stream to sale ratio of 200:1 (in the case of premium streams) or 1200:1 (in the case of ad funded streams) will be applied.

Example:
A release picks up 15,000 streams this week. 9,000 of those streams are premium and 6,000 are ad funded. The release will have a total of 50 chart sales (45 premium, 5 ad funded).
