Re: Remaster of LOVE IT TO DEATH is coming !!!!
Got my copies of LITD today.
Just listened to the first few tracks but I'm hearing a definite improvement in clarity and definition... lots of "air" too... 3-dimensional sounding as compared to the flatter original.
I'd say it's comparable to KILLER rather than SO in the difference from the original disc to the gold disc.

It seems to be a special package, no ?RemarkablyInsincere wrote:This is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com US:

This is due to be released on December 8th.
I ordered my 2 copies via Si's link on the front page... hopefully Si gets his percentage.
The pics shows something "strange" (oh, my vocabulary ...), it's just a picture which is choose by amazon or it's the original form of this remastering ? Not a classical CD jacket ?
I'm a little curious about it

Re: Remaster of LOVE IT TO DEATH is coming !!!!
On a recent trip back "home" I went to a favorite music store to check out the scene. I was rather surprised to find the remastered SO and Killer in the bins (LITD wasn't released yet so not sure if they would have that one). I'm curious to know if anyone else has come across seeing the remasters in their favorite music buying stores (or don't people go INTO stores to buy music anymore) ?

Heck yeah, I still do. Free Cloud in downtown Edmonton gets the best Alice stuff that I've found anywhere for a used record shop. I have an arrangement with the owner... he gives me first look at any Alice material that comes in before it hits the shelves- well worth having an 'underground' collector and gatherer in your corner these days if I may say.damiennalice wrote:(or don't people go INTO stores to buy music anymore) ?
If I may put forward a slice of personal colostomy...
Re: Remaster of LOVE IT TO DEATH is coming !!!!
I'm not sure to really understand the words of damiennalice but ... there is a 'Killer' remastering too ?

KILLER, SCHOOL'S OUT and LOVE IT TO DEATH have all been released on 24k Gold CDs by Audio Fidelity within the last year.

As extensive as these remasters are, they were still not done to the same extent as B$B and WTMN though.

To be fair, the albums you name have more (or different) production on them.

Re: Remaster of LOVE IT TO DEATH is coming !!!!
I believe that the original production levels were fairly even all the way across these albums... Strings and horns, sound effects, multi-tracks, and Bob Ezrin's feel. Perhaps our Wicked Young Man refers to the packaging of these new products. There are no out-takes (alt mixes, b-sides, etc.), extensive liner-notes, or unseen photos included. That would have been nice, but then again, that's not what Audio Fidelity is there for. What you are getting with these discs is the most accurate reproduction of the master tapes as possible, presented with an eye towards the album art as it was originally released.A_MichaelUK wrote:>they were still not done to the same extent as B$B and WTMN though.

We're talking about the differences between "Billion Dollar Babies" (as well as "Welcome To My Nightmare") and the Audio Fidelity remastered albums, not the differences between "Billion Dollar Babies" and "Welcome To My Nightmare".

Thanks Andy. I can see where someone reading my post may have thought I meant just the two records.A_MichaelUK wrote:>I believe that the original production levels were fairly even all the way across these albums...

So, to rephrase, I believe that the original production techniques used on LITD, SO, B$B, WTMN were all fairly even... Strings and horns, sound effects, multi-tracks, and Bob Ezrin's feel...

I disagree. "Love It To Death" has very little by way of arrangements on it. "Killer" has some and "School's Out" has some (maybe a bit more), but both "Billion Dollar Babies" and "Welcome To My Nightmare" have far more arrangments on them compared to those earlier albums.

I know. In this case, I was just clarifying that the Fidelity remasters don't have the 5.1 mixes, slightly different versions or variations of the songs that Rhino had done for B$B and WTMN, unless that is what you were alluding to as well.A_MichaelUK wrote:>they were still not done to the same extent as B$B and WTMN though.

No. I thought you were saying that the earlier albums were more 'straight ahead' rock albums than "Billion Dollar Babies" and "Welcome To My Nightmare" (which I agree with).

Re: Remaster of LOVE IT TO DEATH is coming !!!!
I bit the bullet today and bought LITD from Amazon. This truly is an outstanding album. It mixes garage punk and horror rock so damn well! It's always so tough deciding a favorite between this and Killer. Killer is more mature, but this album is so diverse and satisfying.
Re: Remaster of LOVE IT TO DEATH is coming !!!!
It' damn near fascinating to hear these recordings transferred as bare bones as possible. What are the sources for these transfers? I don't see in the linear notes if these came from the finish multi-track or the stereo master.
Its a shame these gold disks are a limited run because I’d like to see these transfers the definitive versions for new re-issues to come.
