I believe they come from the stereo master which is "the original master tape."

Didn't sound like a remix. By original master tapes I'd hope the multi-track is still around. But I'd glad they used the stereo tape. It would be the closest representation of Bob's mix down after all. A remix could be interesting though.

I don't own the five-channel surround of BB and WTMN. Any good?

B$B absolutely. You hear slight variations of songs (a couple of different lyrics, extended outro on "Raped and Freezin," etc.) The 5.1 mix brings the songs to new life and you hear things on it you wouldn't hear on the original recordings. They did an excellent job. You can even pick out the individual harmonies on some songs as they have their own dedicated speaker.

WTMN is a bit of a let down IMHO. We get the altered versions from the Nightmare TV special, but it isn't as ambitious IMHO.

I thought at least some of those were the same as the quadrophonic version of the album.

Some are.

Nick Woodburn actually made a very comprehensive list of comparisons on the Sickthings list which can be found here (link may not work for those who are not a member of the mailing list)

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/si ... sage/11060

Though, I'll just repost it if there isn't a problem.
I don`t think this has been done before, but I shall attempt at documenting the
differences in the `Billion Dollar Babies`, recordings. The original remastered
version, ( cat. no. 8122-79791-2), will be used as standard against the
`Quadradisc` version, (cat. no. BS42685), and the `DVD-Audio` version, (cat.
no.8122-76663-9).

The `Quadradisc`, was transfered from vinyl to CD by myself without the use of a
graphic equaliser, or any other recording equipment which could take any vital
bits away. (Thanks Steve Dingle for the loan of your vinyl.). This incdently is
the quadraphonic version, allowances must be made because I haven`t got a quad
turntable.

Hello Hooray.
Quadradisc.

Appears to be more echo in the music. Vocal brought out more above the music.
Guitar solo much higher pitch, different music in background. On fade out Alice
sings ` I feel I am so strong` instead of ` I feel so strong`. Different
recording.

DVD-Audio.

Vocal echoes all around the room. Acoustic guitar/piano very clear. Some very
interesting piano licks come through. Guitar solo comes from back of room.
Probably standard recording expanded for surround sound.

===========

Raped And Freezin` This track is clearly three different versions.
Quadradisc.

DVD-Audio

More depth. `OK boys` as original. Stop/start after second chorus, no `OK boys`,
then into guitar solos. First guitar from back speakers, second from front.
Third chorus piano very audiable. Once again Alice sings, `Alone with a bloody
nose`. Acoustic jig at the end is much longer.

===========

Elected.
Quadradisc.

Stereo seems to have been expanded. Alice`s vocal comes over the band much
stronger. Vocals different. Brass section more audiable on second verse. Very
different vocal on fade out.

DVD-Audio.

Sound expanded, no real differences if any.

===========

Billion Dollar Babies.
Quadradisc.

Pretty much the same as re-master. Although mix makes certain sounds exagerated.

DVD-Audio.

More echo on Alice`s vocal, Donovan`s vocal comes over stronger. Once again
probably same version as original.

===========

Unfinished Sweet.
Quadradisc.

Echo on Alice`s vocal again. Lead guitar further down in mix. Alice`s screams of
agony appear to crack. Gong, during extraction, sounds to be mono. Tooth being
pulled sounds exagerated. At end of song `Aching to get me, get me ooh!`, `get
me ooh`, omitted. No agony voice, no fade in and out straight to guitar blast.

DVD-Audio.

Different recording although difficult to tell. First part of song, the same.
Bass riff very strong, during James Bond riffs, these go from front to back
speakers. The sound is truly magnificent. As tooth is pulled, a sound like a
microphone being knocked over can be heard.

===========

No More Mr. Nice Guy.
Quadradisc.

Very much the same.

DVD-Audio.

Harmonising vocals much clearer and warmer.

Generation Landslide.
Quadradisc.

Probably same recording, instead of fading out, a slow drum beat goes into the
next track.

DVD-Audio.

Acoustic guitar from back speakers, harmonica all around room. No difference.

===========

Sick Things.
Quadradisc.

Comes in from previous track, musical intro. Different mix and recording.
Background machinary noises very expanded stereo. Guitar licks louder. Fades out
without going into next track.

DVD-Audio.

Same start as original, although different recording. Brass section lower in
mix. More rhythm guitar in second verse. Machinary noises literally bounce
around the room. Fades out without going into next track.

===========

Mary Ann.
Quadradisc.

Different piano intro. Some voices can be heard in background. Less echo in
Alice`s voice.

DVD-Audio.

Different piano intro. Mainly vocal, piano very quiet.

===========

I Love The Dead.
Quadradisc.

Different mix again. Lead guitar comes over stronger. String section lower in
mix. Haunting deep voice saying `Love the dead`, after every line of chorus.

DVD-Audio.

Guitar licks different, as is recording. After each line of chorus, haunting
deep voice says `He loves the dead`. String section comes over very clear,
making the song sound quite classical. The orgasm comes out all around the room,
(excuse the expression!). `Nothing` omitted at the end, for some reason!

I would personally reccomend an investment in the DVD-Audio, the sound is
expanded and clearer. Even on a non surround sound system.

Regards, Nick.

There's an example of the kind that pitkin88 claimed did not exist!

WRONG. It is a review. It is not a re-construction or a restoration. Perhaps you should go back and re-read my posts.

That said it is great!! I really enjoy this stuff and I appreciate it being posted. Thanks WYM.

No, I'm right. Who said it had to be ONLY "a re-constrcution or restoration"? You wrote:
An exhausting amount of research was done on many continents. I don't believe anyone has tried this with Alice.

The example WickedYoungMan gave is just one example of the "research" you said you did not think had been attempted.

I don't need to. I have a better memory than you do.

The following was posted offer on the Hoffman boards. Marshall is the owner of Audio Fidelity:

Marshall said that AF has requested both Billion Dollar Babies and Muscle of Love. They were turned down on MOL and told to reapply for BDB after six months. He said he plans to reapply for both. So AF definitely wants to release MOL, so perhaps one of these days...

Yea, I wouldn't have expected them to turn that one down. Unless the label has some plans for it on their own, which I would find surprising at this point.

I would have expected BDB to be more likely to be turned down outright given it's already received the deluxe treatment, even thought that was quite a while ago.

The good news is they aren't giving up on doing those. From what I understand, the Alice Cooper 24k Gold CDs have sold very well for Audio Fidelity.

I'd survive without BDB but we weed MOL for completion sake. I guess I'm forgetting PFY and EA, but, oh well.

So was it Warner that declined? Alice's management? or was it Audio Fidelity?
