Promoters and Alice Cooper

Post by pitkin88 » Thu Apr 15, 2021 3:52 am

It has been said that the promoters ( guessing the US ) are not interested in the band reuniting with Alice. I think it is Shep that is pushing this.

1) Are we talking here about the band ( DD, MB and NS), or the band plus his touring band?

If it is both I can understand as they are simply being asked to pay more for what they see is just an Alice ( Vince ) Cooper show. If it is a tour with just Alice, the remaining three and a lead guitarist I call BS. I honestly don't believe the promoters care who is on stage with Alice.

I really don't want to see you guys play 30 minutes and then watch his show. I want a full show not you guys just hitting your stride and off you go. I know there was some concern about Michael's health but, apart from needing a decent hair cut, he looks in the best shape he has been in for years.

I understand Alice feels an obligation to his touring band but you guys created the brand! Bar very few songs, Alice Cooper will be remembered for the songs from 71-74.

A compromise could easily be reached by the band plus 1 playing a residency in maybe Vegas. 2 months. Albums could be played in full like Sparks recently did. LITD and Killer month one, Schools Out and Billion Dollar Babies month two with MOL songs added as a bonus.

Failing that, Alice Cooper plays The LITD show, Killer show as you did in the 70's. Hell you could even throw in the band songs from the last three albums as the odds on Alice playing them are remote to say the least.

Non of this would effect the touring band. Expenses would be lower with zero travel.

Has anything like this been suggested and what do you think about the suggestions.

Ask the fans or the surviving original group band members that saw or played any of the shows in the UK in 2017 (i was at all of them) if they were BS!

The 30 minutes at the end of the shows with the OG’s were the highlight.

Sometimes a compromise is better than nothing, negativity achieves nothing.

Also i’d be very surprised if Social Debris isn’t played on the next Alice tour.

What you have the bear in mind, is as much as some fans don’t like what Alice did after the original band split up (and most of my favourite albums under the Alice Cooper moniker are the original band albums), the practical realities of the music business are that Alice will never play a show where he isn’t going to play Poison, because he would alienate fans that for them that was their School’s Out or I’m Eighteen.

A show where a complete album was played like what Ian Anderson did with Thick as a Brick a few years back could be a possibility, but you’d need to add to it to make it a 90 minute ticket seller.

Picture the scene, Saturday November 27th 2021 on the 50th anniversary of Killer, the album is performed live for the first half of the show with the OG’s plus one, followed by the new band and then all together at the end for the encores.

Now what’s the betting this could happen in Detroit on that date? there’s a Detroit Story for you!
Lead guitar on Social Debris. Album on iTunes, Amazon & Spotify, title track featured on TV

I have no problem with you chipping in but only Dennis can answer this.

No negativity at all. It's pretty common knowledge here how big a fan of the band I am. I don't need to prove anything. Dennis brought up that it was just as they were catching their stride it was over. I have never questioned the band's ability so please don't put that in my mouth.

I don't want to sit through his touring bands set just to wait for 30 mins. I don't want to see a bloody Pudding show. I'm not happy with scraps nor should I be made to feel greatful for anything at all.

I could care less about the average fan stuff and what they expect. They can and should be taken out of their comfort zone. If they know what to expect ie Killer show then it's their problem if they don't hear Poison. I

No one is getting any younger. A short band residency could and would work.

I never left Alice Cooper. It was my group with equal investment and ownership as Michael, Neal, Glen, and Alice. Ever since 1974, hardly a day has gone by that someone hasn't given me their plan for how I should get the band back together. And not a day has gone by that I haven't been frustrated that I haven't been able to make that happen. But if I could make it happen, it would have happened decades ago. Your suggestions have been voiced many, many times before, and there is genuine emotion behind it, which only means that you care about what the group did and what happened to us. I appreciate that but directing your suggestions my way is like telling the parched desert that it should make it rain.

Well said, Dennis!
AC had a show at a casino in MD scheduled for Father's Day last year. But,was cancelled because of the pandemic.
Las Vegas would be the "Go To" place for the ACG to reunite for either a GH show or Album extravaganza!

I pushed for a Vegas residency for the 50th Anniversary of the Alice Cooper group in 2017.

So sad that never happened. It's such a logical place for something like that.

No one is putting words in your mouth pitkin88, i kept the screenshots of your negative comments that the admin deleted on the recent projects the original band members had released, so don’t try and come across as holier than thou!

Dennis, I’ve heard that ITV are doing a documentary about the break up of the Alice Cooper group and had lined up interviews, do you think this will help with future collaborations, or open a hornets nest?

In an ideal world it would be great to see a complete new album and tour of the original guys, i even had this idea of trying to fund an album (via one of the funding platforms) called Alice Cooper at Abbey Road, the USP being Alice often refers to Bob Ezrin as our George Martin, so i had this idea of getting him and the original guys in the studio synonymous with Sir George and cutting a whole new album.

The practical realities of the music business and money, obviously make things like this difficult, but as Christopher Todd Penn has proved with Live at the Astroturf, not impossible.

Keeping my old deleted comments. How sad. I have the right to speak up about which solo band members music I like and don't like. I do it for Alice also. If you don't like it you can piss off as far as I'm concerned.

I saw those posts before they were taken down. When it comes to music, everybody has an expert opinion. That's one of the great things about music - being passionate about what you like. I'm my own worst critic so I rarely take it personally.
It is tough to reach the level of what we did 50 years ago when the band played constantly, and when recording sessions had much larger budgets, however, whenever we do get together, we have fun. The same goes for live performances.
All of the recent things that have happened, the small reunions, have been a toe in the water to prove that a true reunion would be more profitable that the existing situation. It's only happened because of a positive approach. Criticism is counter-productive.
The good news is that something could happen.
